TO: Athletic Directors and Wrestling Coaches FROM: Bryan Pennix, Division III Sectional wrestling tournament manager RE: 2018 SW DIII Sectional Wrestling tournament Friday, February 23 and Saturday 24 Blanchester High school will be hosting the SW DIII wrestling sectional in which your school has been assigned. The teams in this year s tournament include: Bethel-Tate, Blanchester, Cincinnati Country Day, Clermont Northeastern, Deer Park, East Clinton, Hillcrest, Madeira, Miami Valley Christian Academy, North College Hill, Purcell Marian, Reading, Roger Bacon, Summit Country Day, Waynesville, and Williamsburg. (16) Seven schools from the Southeast will be compete at the Blanchester site: Adena, Huntington, Paint Valley, River Valley, South Gallia, Southeastern, and Wellston. Total schools (23) ALL entries and seeding criteria must be submitted via baumspage.com before 7:00pm on Thursday, FEB 22 nd The State Tournament dress code shall be enforced. Coaches are required to wear dress slacks or khakis, a shirt with a collar, and appropriate footwear, such as sneakers, dress shoes, etc. Flip flops and sandals are examples of inappropriate footwear. Coaches dressed inappropriately will not be permitted to be on the mat. Alpha master sheet shall be presented to the tournament manager when checking in. When competition begins, each team will be limited to two coaches per wrestler on the floor. Due to limitations on floor space, statisticians will not be permitted on the floor, videotaping and photographing will not be permitted on the floor of the gym. Videotaping and photographing may only be done from the spectators area and must not interfere with the view of other spectators. The scoreboard area must be kept open. The floor will be secured for the benefit of all athletes, officials, tournament staff and coaches. We ask that all coaches ensure everyone associated with their teams follow the tournament rules and instructions to insure a smooth running tournament for everyone s benefit. Wrestlers should sit in the bleachers behind the scorers tables, in the visitor stands. The only persons permitted in the wrestling area will be the wrestler and two (2) coaches. Violations will result in the removal of the coach from the wrestling area. Each school will be allowed additional people based on number of competitors one to six (1-6) competitors will receive four (4) additional passes, seven to ten (7-10) competitors will receive five (5) additional passes, and eleven to fourteen (11-14) will receive six (6) additional passes. These passes are for

coaches, stats, managers, and support personnel who arrive with the team and who are on the team check in sheet. Admission for a two-day sectional tournament will be $6.00 for the first session, $6.00 for the second session and $7.00 for the finals. All session pass will be $15.00. 2018 Blanchester Division III Sectional Wrestling Friday, February 23 rd and Saturday, February 24 th 2018. Weather Contingency Plan Given the unpredictability of winter weather and driving conditions, the Southwest District Board has issued a weather cancellation policy that will be followed by all tournaments in the Southwest District. This policy states that if any of the schools participating in our tournament are under an official level 2 or level 3 weather advisory, we will postpone the tournament. The following procedures will be implemented in the event of a level 2 or level 3 weather advisory: 1. Communication School/coach will be contacted one (1) hour prior to their departure time on hazardous weather days. Officials/Tournament workers will be included. 2. Media To the extent possible, postponements, delays, and date/time changes will be reported to local television and radio stations. The information will also be placed on the SWDAB.org and baumspage.com web sites. 3. Contingency Plans: Postponement on Friday: Sessions 1 & 2 will be held on Saturday, the 24 th at 10:30 AM with the Finals on Sunday, the 25 th at 2:30 PM. Postponement on Friday and Saturday: Session 1 & 2 will be held Sunday, the 25 th at 1:00 PM with the Finals on Monday, 26 th at 5:30 PM. Any further delays; we will do what is best for the athletes. 2018 Blanchester Division III Sectional Wrestling Sunday, January 22 - Online entry window opens Thursday, February 22 Submit Online Roster and Seed Nomination Form at www.baumspage.com before 7:00 PM 4.4 Rosters must be submitted online by the Thursday prior to the Sectional Tournament. Submissions will close on Thursday at 7:00 PM. Schools will be subject to a $150 fine for wrestlers entered after the deadline. 4.4.1 Wrestlers are locked in their weight classes at that time and cannot be entered in another weight class. 9.3 After 7:00 PM on Thursday no substitutions will be permitted with the following exceptions: a. Academic or disciplinary ineligibility. b. Family matters that necessitate a wrestler being withdrawn. c. A medical emergency or illness experienced by the wrestler. Not passing the skin check is a medical matter.

Sectional Seeding per 2018 OHSAA regulations: 10.1 All wrestlers with a.500 record or better from the current season (minimum of 12 matches) will be seeded with a maximum of 8 seeds per weight class. 10.2 The seeds will be placed on the preliminary bracket in accordance with the Rule 10 of the NFHS Wrestling Rule Book. Byes and non-seeded wrestlers will be placed on the bracket by the computer. 10.3 A wrestler may only be seeded in one weight class. 10.4 If a seeded wrestler drops out or fails to make weight: 10.4.1 Seeded wrestlers will be rotated accordingly to the appropriate line (see 9.3-9.5). 10.4.2 Non-seeded wrestler s lines on the bracket will become byes if a bye is legal. 10.4.3 If a bye is not permitted, a coin flip (or series of flips) will determine which line will become a bye, and which wrestler must be moved to make the bracket legal. 10.5 In accordance with NFHS Rule 10-3-1 there shall be no byes after the first round of competition in both the championship and consolation brackets. Note: The first round of the tournament in a particular weight class could be the quarterfinal or semifinal round depending on the number of entries. 10.6 Seeding Criteria: 10.6.1 Returning state placer (1-3) at any weight class 10.6.2 Returning state placer (4-8) at any weight class. A New (Freshman or upper classman that was not a contender last year) wrestler that has more than 25 wins and has defeated a wrestler listed above him on the list and has a higher winning percentage will be seeded above the returning state place winner at any weight class (4-8). *The coach must e- mail the credentials to the manager. 10.6.3 Returning district placer (1-6) at any weight class. A New (Freshman or upper classman that was not a contender last year) wrestler that has more than 20 wins and has a higher winning percentage than the returning district place winner will be seeded above the returning district place winner at any weight class (1-6). 10.6.4 Tie-breakers: The higher placer at each level earns the higher seed. If two or more wrestlers have identical place finishes, the wrestler returning at the same weight earns the higher seed. Previous year s tournament place finish MUST have been at an OHSAA tournament. A returning placer can be from Division I, II, or III. 4 10.6.5 Won/Loss record (by percentage) from current season (minimum of 12 matches). In the event of a tie in percentage, the wrestler with the most wins will receive the higher seed. If this does not break the tie, a coin-flip will determine the seed. 10.7 Seeding Meeting A seeding meeting may be held after wrestlers have been seeded by criteria. A coach may challenge a seed based on criteria and the coaches will then vote on the challenge.

Turn in Alpha Master Sheet. Please check all names, spelling, and records listed on the weigh-in sheet. Data will update automatically through to the STATE tournament 3:30 PM Weigh-in: Blanchester High School will be considered the weigh in area. All OHSAA Skin Authorizations appropriately signed and dated must be presented at check-in. The weigh-in shall proceed through weight classes beginning at 106 lbs. and end immediately upon completion of the 285 lbs. class. A contestant may step on and off the first scale two times. If he fails to make weight on the first scale, he shall immediately step on each available scale one time in an attempt to make weight. 4:00 PM Coaches Meeting Room 106 4:00 PM Admission / Pass Gate Opens tickets will not be sold until 4:00pm Please have wrestlers ready when called to the mat. Keep others in the stands or in the warm-up area. Back hallway, or to the sides of the bleachers. Only two coaches are permitted in the 2 chairs at the edge of the mat. 4:55 PM National Anthem 5:00 PM Session ONE First Round Quarterfinals + 1 st Consolation round to start when championship 145 quarters begin. 2 nd Consolation Second Day Weigh-ins will start when 145 lb. Quarterfinals begin and continue 20 minutes after the final match of the evening ends.

Saturday, February 24 8:30 AM Team entry doors open -Glass doors by the football field, behind high school. Must have participant passes available to be checked in. 9:00 AM Skin Checks Weigh-in: If needed. 9:30 AM Admission / Pass Gate Opens tickets will not be sold until 9:30am 10:00 AM Session TWO Semifinals (11, 12, 12.5, 13) and Consolation Quarterfinals (4, 5, 5.5, 6) *Semifinals and Consolation Quarterfinals wrestled simultaneously. Consolation Semifinals (5,6,6.5,7) Session THREE *45 minutes after conclusion of semifinals matches National Anthem prior to start of Finals First (4,4.5,5,6), Third (2,3,3.5,4) and Fifth Place (2,3,3.5,4) Weight class conclusion prior to moving on to the next weight class. Recognition of placers will be done after 285. Wrestlers should report to the podium in school warm ups, no hats or tattered clothing. District qualifiers will be asked to verify their name, year, and record while waiting for the presentation. Please check with your district qualifiers to confirm that the data listed on the qualifier form is correct. Blanchester (SW), Madison Plains (SW), Lehman Catholic (SW), and Lima Central Catholic (NW) each will qualify four (4) per weight class. The Fifth Place finisher will be the alternate. Please notify the District Manager ASAP if you know your qualifier will not be able to compete in the District Tournament. Four (4) wrestlers from the Hobart Arena District will qualify for the State Tournament.
