Bethel School of Discipleship (BSD) 2016 Information ORIENTATION: Sunday, Jan 17 th 10:30am-11:45am at the Middle School of Brentwood Academy 1. Mission of BSD: o Bethel School of Discipleship is a two-year program consisting of courses in discipleship and biblical studies designed to build strong believers who are equipped to make disciples. 2. Two Years: o BSD Year One Foundational Courses in Discipleship o Class Time: Sundays, 10:30am-11:45am at the Middle School of Brentwood Academy o Prerequisite: None o BSD Year Two Foundational Courses in Biblical Studies o Class Time: Sundays, 10:30am-11:45am at the Middle School of Brentwood Academy Prerequisite: Graduation from BSD Year One (which includes church membership) Participation in either a Life Group or a Department/Ministry 3. 4. Materials Fee o The materials fee is due at the time of registration. o Exception: One may audit the first class to decide on registering, and then pay at the end of the first class. o A payment schedule can potentially be set up o BSD Year One: $50 ($25 for students, single parents, spouses of full price registrants, and seniors 60+) o BSD Year Two: $50 ($25 for students, single parents, spouses of full price registrants, and seniors 60+) o Note: All graduating students will be required to pay the above fee(s) in full before graduation is permitted. 5. Refunds o To receive a refund, you must provide the administrator written notice of your withdrawal. o A full refund will be given for notice given by the end of the first class you attend. o A 50% refund will be given for notice given by the end of the first course in which you enroll. o After the first course in which you enroll, refunds will not be available. 6. Materials o Upon registration, course notes and a binder will be provided. o Graduates: all graduation materials including a gown and certificate/diploma will be provided. 7. Homework o Homework must be completed most weeks prior to the next class. o Be sure to check off having done the homework on your personal log to keep track of your progress. Students are responsible for tracking the completion of all assignments. 8. Course Assessments o An assessment (test) will be given at the end of most courses. o The assessment is primarily used as another learning tool. If you do not get 70%, you will need to retake the assessment. You can retake the assessment multiple times. 9. Attendance o Anyone is welcome to join at the beginning of any BSD course (see course list and start dates above) o Registration will be available year round via online and in class for those unable to join at the beginning of the academic year. o We highly encourage our students to attend BSD in person versus online in order to develop a sense of camaraderie with one another which serves as a means of encouragement, accountability, and motivation to finish strong. o In order to graduate, you must make up any missed classes by listening to the audio podcast online and completing any missed course notes, homework, and assessments. o If you miss a class, you are responsible for informing the course administrator of your absence and any make-up work you have completed. o If you miss a class, you must also listen to the class audio, fill in the student notes, and complete any homework assignments. 10. Graduation o In order to graduate, requirements must be met for attendance, weekly homework, course assessments, and any make-up work due to absences. o BSD Year One = Certificate in Discipleship o BSD Year Two = Diploma* in Discipleship & Biblical Studies *Diploma is not accredited o If a student is unable to graduate for any reason, they will be held responsible for submitting required coursework documentation to the course administrator by the specified deadline in order for their records to be preserved beyond that academic year. o Renewed payment and registration will be required of non-graduates whose records are no longer on file. o Records of non-graduates will be kept on file no more than one additional academic year (assuming proper coursework documentation has been turned into the course administrator by the specified deadline) before the student will be required to begin the program anew in order to graduate. o Graduation with Honors is available to those who fulfill the following requirements: o BSD Year One Complete all of the normal requirements for graduation. Read the entire New Testament starting at the beginning of your enrollment in BSD Year One and finish prior to Graduation. o BSD Year Two Complete all of the normal requirements for graduation. Read the entire Old Testament starting at the beginning of your enrollment in BSD Year Two and finish prior to Graduation. 11. They will receive training to do so as part of the program s classes. o Become a member of Bethel and actively serve in the church o Be in a life group or be involved in a ministry department o Complete chapters 1-4 of the Purple Book o Use the GODTEST to talk to at least three people about God and the Gospel. o Attend the House2House Outreach scheduled for the BSD Year One class (If unable to attend the scheduled date, the student will be responsible to attend another House2House Outreach on their own.) o Use the One2One booklet to talk to at least one person about the Gospel, and what it means to follow Jesus as His disciple. o Attend and complete Experiencing Spiritual Freedom (ESF) o Complete any additional items presented during the academic year. o BSD Year Two students will also be required to complete the following items. They will receive training to do so as part of the program s classes. o Complete chapters 5-12 of the Purple Book. o Take someone through chapters 1-4 of the Purple Book o Attend the House2House Outreach scheduled for the BSD Year Two class (If unable to attend the scheduled date, the student will be responsible to attend another House2House Outreach on their own.) o Take someone through Experiencing Spiritual Freedom (ESF) o Start a Life Group o Complete any additional items presented during the academic year.
Honors Requirements o BSD Year One students must read the entire New Testament starting at the beginning of their enrollment in BSD Year One and finish prior to Graduation, in order to graduate with honors. o BSD Year Two students must read the entire Old Testament starting at the beginning of their enrollment in BSD Year Two and finish prior to Graduation, in order to graduate with honors. Next Steps o BSD Year One graduates will be encouraged to take any of the next steps: o Become active in our ENGAGE ministry. o Become active in our Ministry Team. o Enroll in BSD Year Two. o BSD Year Two graduates will be encouraged to take any of the next steps: o Become a leader in our ENGAGE ministry. o Become a leader in our Ministry Team. o Participate in a Ten Days Missions Experience o Attend any Sunday School Courses offered o Consider applying for enrollment in the New Every Nation Leadership Institute (NEW ENLI).
