THOMAS JEFFERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL 017-018 LIBRARY and COMPUTER SCIENCE CLUB Do you love reading, computers or both? Join the Library and Computer Science Club to help plan library events, participate in book and computer challenges and earn community service credit by helping out in library! Battle of the Books, Library Comic Con and the Hour of Code Challenge are just some of our upcoming events! The club will meet on WEDNESDAYS from 3:05 PM 3:55 PM in the Library. Sponsor: J. Hadley MEMORY YEARBOOK Students will complete the TJ Memory Book. The Yearbook Club is a great way for 8 th grade students to get involved at TJMS! Students will help design yearbook pages, assist with photography at events, and will help promote yearbook sales. The Yearbook committee will meet on TUESDAY and THURSDAY mornings from 7:50 AM 8:0 AM in Room 114 (Or when your bus arrives) Sponsor: M. Di Stefano IMPROV CLUB The Improv Club is a place where students are given a myriad of opportunities to use their imagination to collaborate, create, and grow. Through the course of this year, students are instructed about the benefits of each improvisational game and activity which include increasing focus, improving quick thinking skills, collaborating with a diverse population of peers and significantly increasing self-confidence/awareness. The games and activities are fun and fast-paced. Each week, new games and exercises are taught. This club will meet on WEDNESDAYS from 3:05 PM - 3:55 PM in Room. Sponsor: K. Troy MOVIE CLUB The Movie Club is for TJMS students who love movies. We will watch and discuss movies from different genres. We will explore comedies, action movies, animated movies, and much more! BAND Calling all band students! Do you enjoy the thrill of performing in winter and spring concerts? How about the thrill of playing in competitions and festivals? Help us strive for a Superior ranking at Great Adventure this year by participating in band! Students will learn how to balance, blend, and contribute their individual instrument s sound within the group to create an impactful performance for an audience. Students who are not enrolled in band as a class should first obtain approval from the band director. The club will meet as follows in the Band Room: Sponsor: J. Tobin 6 TH Grade Band WEDNESDAYS from 3:05 PM 3:55 PM 7 TH & 8 th Grade Band THURSDAYS from 3:05 PM 3:55 PM TJMS JAGUAR JAZZ BAND Looking for a challenging, new style of music to perform? Do you play the piano, guitar, bass, drum set, trombone, saxophone, trumpet, clarinet, or flute? Jazz band is what you ve been looking for! The TJMS Jaguar Jazz Band introduces music students to the history and performance practice of Jazz, Funk, Latin, and Big Band styles, as well as an introduction to improvisation and other forms found outside the traditional band curriculum. We perform at the winter and spring concerts, as well as District Jazz Night. This club will meet on MONDAY mornings from 7:30 AM 8:15 AM in the Band Room. Sponsor: J. Tobin 6 th GRADE CHORUS 6th Grade Chorus is open to all students who love to sing and want to learn about music, regardless of your elective! We will work on learning music for the Winter and Spring Concerts, as well as singing techniques to make you a better and more confident singer! Students will also have the opportunity to go on different trips and end the year with a trip to Six Flags Great Adventure! 6th Grade Chorus will meet once a week (in two different groups) during lunch on A DAYS. Sponsor: R. Hamilton 7 TH & 8 TH GRADE CHORUS 7th and 8th Grade Chorus is only open to students who are enrolled in band, orchestra or chorus as their elective, or who can read music and audition with Ms. Hamilton. We will work on putting our pieces that we learn in class together as a large group. We will focus on different genres, styles and cultures and prepare music for the Winter and Spring Concerts! Students will also have the opportunity to go on different trips and end the year with a trip to Six Flags Great Adventure! Singers need to attend one rehearsal a week, either WEDNESDAYS from 3:05PM - 3:55PM OR THURSDAY mornings from 7:30AM - 8:15AM. Sponsor: R. Hamilton THURSDAY CHORUS This group is open to 6th-8th graders who want to learn to sing in a more fun, relaxed environment! This group will not travel on trips or go to Six Flags, but will have performance opportunities at the concerts. This club will meet on THURSDAYS from 3:05 PM 3:55 PM. Sponsor: R. Hamilton ORCHESTRA 6 Students will prepare for upcoming concerts, assemblies, competitions, and performances. The club will meet TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY mornings at 7:30 AM on the Stage. Sponsor: D. Pasquarelli ORCHESTRA 7/8 Students will prepare for upcoming concerts, assemblies, competitions, and performances. The club will meet every THURSDAY from 3:05 PM 3:55 PM on the Stage. Sponsor: D. 3 LITERARY MAGAZINE / NEWSPAPER CLUB For creative writers, the club will explore a range of writing styles: poetry, short story, essay, literary criticism, drama, and graphic novels. We will assemble an end-of-the-year publication, The Jaguar Print, and host a live Coffee House celebration in the spring! For all future journalists, writers, newscasters, editors and publishers, this club will give you an opportunity to create and contribute to the school newspaper. Students will be conducting interviews, taking photographs, designing layout and reporting on school and world news! Jaguar Journal will publish seasonal issues, in addition to posting blogs throughout the year. This club will meet on WEDNESDAYS in Room 109 and THURSDAYS in Room 0 from 3:05 PM 3:55 PM. Yurcik MATH CLUB Math Club provides students an opportunity to come once a week for extra help or to reinforce current or past skills learned in their regular math classes. Students will have opportunities to peer tutor one another depending on strengths and weaknesses, and complete their homework with the ability to ask questions and have the teacher support if needed. It is a fun place for students to work and improve their mathematical thinking. Math Club will meet every THURSDAY from 3:05 PM 3:55 PM in Room 13. Sponsor: M. Margovskaya FUEL UP PLAY 60 / WELLNESS CLUB If you like being healthy and active and want others to do the same, then Fuel Up To Play 60 Wellness club could be for you! We are a club that helps to encourage our community to be more physically active and make better food choices, in and outside of school. In the past the club has hosted Family Fitness Night, helped make healthy changes to the Chartwells food menus, and has been trying to introduce healthy snack options for students who stay after school. This club meets on WEDNESDAYS from 3:05 PM - 3:55 PM in the Library. Co-Sponsors: L. Dettelbach and R. Berner ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY CLUB If you are interested in IT or information technology, this is the club for you. This club will help those that need assistance with computers/chromebooks and peripherals, as well as discuss and learn about current technology, especially Apps and Google innovations. (Hardware, Software, Extensions and Applications) This club will meet on TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS from 7:45 AM 8:0 AM in Room 11. Co-Sponsors: D. DeStefano and T. Schreiner ODYSSEY OF THE MIND This club provides students with the opportunity to show off their creativity through group problem-solving activities. The Odyssey of the Mind team will meet on WEDNESDAYS and THURSDAYS from 3:05 PM 3:55 PM in Room 118 to solve mathematical, literary, and science-related problems. This club offers students the opportunity to compete amongst their peers, as well as work together to compete against other schools. Co-Sponsors: M. Mawn and H. Rebovich

4 ART CLUB Do you love Art? Do you often look at the world around you and imagine all the fun ways you can beautify a space with art? Art you looking for more opportunities to explore your creative ideas and talents? Then the Art Club is just the place. The objective of the Art Club is to provide an extra-curricular activity for those students who enjoy and/or excel in the visual arts area. Activities include both individual and group projects. Students will also participate in community-based creative activities such as the creation of murals and mosaics. This club will meet on WEDNESDAYS from 3:05 PM 3:55 PM in Room 10. Sponsor: J. Wistuba AVID CLUB The AVID Club is for students interested in learning more about the AVID system. We welcome students of all grade levels to join. Students will learn about AVID strategies, as well as participate in team building and critical thinking activities. The club will meet on WEDNESDAYS from 3:05 PM 3:55 PM in Room 07. Co-Sponsors: K. Boyle and S. Laiso C.H.A.M.P.S The CHAMPS program will provide small group support for the purpose of advising students on academic, social, and future planning areas. Students will participate in activities to help them develop self-esteem, make good decisions, and connect with peers. The club will meet on THURSDAYS from 3:05 PM 3:55 PM in Room 111. Sponsor: J. McGrory LEGO EDUCATION CLUB Build, create discover and challenge yourself with LEGO s! Through collaboration and creativity we will build our problem solving and critical thinking skills. Club members will work hands-on with our LEGO sets to explore STEM concepts and develop the knowledge to become our future creators. This club will meet on THURSDAYS from 3:05 PM - 3:55 PM in Room 115. Sponsor: K. Ryan SCRAPBOOKING CLUB In the year 017, it is very common for students to take many photos - from personal experiences to photos from daily after school activities. What s uncommon is students actually taking those photos off of their phones and enjoying them as keepsakes or a decoration. This club will turn memories into an inspired masterpiece! During club meetings, you will have the opportunity to make fun, creative scrapbook pages eventually creating a personal scrapbook! The Scrapbook club is for students to collaborate with their peers in order to showcase their creativity and provide support for one another s individual talents and personal experiences. This club will meet on WEDNESDAYS from 3:05 PM 3:55 PM in Room 108. Sponsor: M. Spero

5 HOMEWORK CLUB Are you looking for a little homework help or just a quiet place to get it all done? After-school Homework Clubs are growing in many communities. Often when students get around to starting their homework, distractions from television, computers, friends, and family make studying a challenge and help is not available. More students are doing their homework in places other than home like libraries and homework clubs. This club will meet on WEDNESDAYS from 3:05 PM - 3:55 PM in 11. Sponsor: M. Banach COMIC BOOK CLUB This club allows students to work together to analyze comics and discuss their findings with their peers. Members of this club will focus on how the authors and illustrators bring words, colors, and pictures together to entice the reader and make them want to read more. They will also analyze the literary elements found in the comics. Students will then create their own comics using the strategies they noted in their discussions with other club members. They will then publish and share their comics in a Google Classroom. This club will me on THURSDAYS from 3:05 PM to 3:55 PM in Room 03. Sponsor: K. Byrnes MATH COMPETION CLUB The Math Competition Club will take part in MATHCOUNTS, which is a national program that provides students the opportunity to compete in live, in-person contests against and alongside their peers. The first competition is a school competition which will probably take place in January. After that competition, the students will compete in the Chapter Competition. This club meets on WEDNESDAYS from 3:05 PM to 3:55 PM in Room 17. Sponsor: G. Perdomo
