Who is an International Student? An international student is a student who enrolls in a U.S. academic program and who s status is non-immigrant. Common non-immigrant statuses are A-1, A-2, B1, B-2, E-1, E-2, F-1, F-2, H-1, H-4, J-1, J-2, L-1, L-2, M-1, R-1 and R-2. F-1 is the most common status used by international students. A student who has applied for or received permanent residency, refugee status or asylum in the U.S. is not considered to be an international student by the Immigration and Naturalization Service. Total International Student Population at SWT Surpasses 500! The international student population at SWT for the spring 2003 semester is 501. Historically, total enrollments at universities decrease slightly in the spring semester, but the international student population has generally continued to increase from fall to spring. SWT also has 17 international students participating in post graduation practical training. Although these students are not enrolled at SWT, the International Office is still responsible for keeping current addresses for these students in SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System).
