WELCOME FROM THE CEO Our Trust is passionate about quality education; all of our academies have one simple mission - to give our children the very best education possible and the very best start in life. We place our students at the heart of everything we do and our aim is to nurture and develop resilience and potential in every child, making it possible for them to lead productive and successful lives. We want our students to strive for ambitious futures, leaving a positive mark on our and their communities as a whole. The Evolve Trust is a values-driven organisation with an unwavering commitment To open minds, creating opportunities for all to believe in themselves, achieve their potential and develop the skills needed to succeed and enjoy life. Our purpose is to provide a first class education and improve the life chances of all the young people in the Trust. Our Trust benefits greatly from the combination of mainstream and special schools within the Trust, enabling staff to benefit greatly from collaborative learning. Professional development, challenge and support are at the core of our school improvement strategy ensuring that all our staff are welldeveloped and have the opportunity to engage in the latest pedagogical research. The Evolve Trust is proud to be ambitious and inclusive. It is often said that each child gets one chance of education. Our role is to ensure that our students make the most of their opportunities by ensuring that our academies aspire to and reach the highest standards. Claire-Marie Cuthbert Chief Executive Officer - PAGE 02 -

WELCOME FROM THE HEADTEACHER Welcome to The Brunts Academy. We are proud to be part of the Evolve Trust - a group of academies that work together to help all students achieve their very best outcomes through strong partnership and collaborative learning. We are resolute in our commitment to opening minds, creating opportunities for all to believe in themselves, so that students and staff achieve their potential and develop the skills needed to succeed and enjoy life. We expect students to work hard at the Academy, but we also place importance on greater levels of involvement with academy life - striving to develop qualities of selfconfidence, leadership, responsibility, teamwork, respect and self-awareness. Visitors often comment on the positive atmosphere and strong sense of purpose that exists in the Academy. All of this is only possible by working in close partnership with parents/carers to ensure each individual student receives personalised support. It is this that has resulted in us being a nationally recognised Achievement for All Academy. The Brunts Academy is proud of the success our students achieve year on year and through our constant focus on teaching and learning, we see our students develop into lifelong learners whilst enjoying their time with us. We look forward to welcoming you into our Academy to see the great experiences that happen here and how your child can be part of our learning journey. Carl Atkin Headteacher - PAGE 03 -

AMBITION The Brunts Academy has a dynamic Sixth Form offering a wide choice of subjects and excellent individual support to ensure that all students achieve the best possible grades in their public examinations. Our Sixth Form comprises of students who have come up through the earlier years at Brunts plus newcomers who have studied at other schools. We welcome applications from potential new students who will find a supportive and friendly environment from staff and existing students. Brunts Academy is proud of the success our students have achieved year on year and, through our constant focus on teaching and learning, we see our students develop into lifelong learners whilst enjoying their time with us. At Brunts you will be part of a student group with a tradition of success and a commitment to academic, extracurricular and personal development. We look forward to welcoming you into our Sixth Form to see the great experiences that happen here. Our success in enabling students to gain places on competitive university courses and access to further training and employment reflects our dedication to supporting students to achieve their academic potential and individual ambitions. - PAGE 04 -

ENDEAVOUR Getting started The courses offered cater for a range of interests, strengths and ability. We do however try to ensure that appropriate choices are made, so as to avoid problems later on in the year. In general, students will take 3 or 4 AS level/btec Level 3 courses, dependent upon their success at GCSE. Applications from students from other schools are particularly welcomed. Choosing your course Students are encouraged to take into account their: - Interest in the subject. - Current performance in the subject. - Potential chances of success. - A positive attitude to study. - A high motivation to succeed. - Entry requirements of a particular career. Entry requirements Circumstances vary from student to student but you will need to have achieved Level 2 (at least 5 higher grade GCSE passes) in order to start Level 3 (AS, BTEC, Applied A Level, OCR National) courses. It is advised that you speak with relevant subject staff before choosing a course. Some A Level courses recommend at least a B Grade or equivalent at GCSE to allow you to study them so you have the best chance of success. - PAGE 05 -

INTEGRITY Morning Tutorial All students are allocated a tutor and tutor group. This session runs alongside whole school registration from 10.25 10.55am. It is during these sessions that key information is shared and your tutor can provide valuable support. Coursework and classwork All students should recognise that the main purpose of entry to the Sixth Form is to obtain further qualifications. Academic work must, therefore, receive high priority and therefore working conditions in the Sixth Form are very different from any previous situations. Concentration will be on a smaller number of subjects but with a greater depth of study. For most subjects it is necessary to read widely and outside the specific tasks set by teaching staff. Success in the Sixth Form will depend on commitment during lessons, an ability to work with concentration during Private Study periods and a willingness to spend time at home in personal study. - PAGE 06

RESILIENCE A Typical Week The Sixth Form is run on a weekly timetable with 6 X 50 minute lessons each day. Your timetable will be 5 lessons per subject, per week. There is an additional period known as Guidance and Enrichment. This covers a variety of areas throughout your time in Sixth Form ranging from Academic Mentoring, Careers Advice, Financial Awareness and University and Work applications. You also have the opportunity to achieve additional qualifications such as The Extended Project, Citizenship and Sports Leaders in this double period. In addition to the taught part of your timetable, you are encouraged to participate in enrichment activities. More details of the wide variety of opportunities on offer will be highlighted during your time in the Sixth Form (e.g. Reading Pairs, charity work, student council). We work closely with local businesses to offer career internships, master classes and networking opportunities. Many Higher Education courses expect students to have sought experience in their subject area during their time in Sixth Form (e.g. Teaching, Nursing and medical applications). During the Guidance and Enrichment sessions, all students are involved in a programme of careers education and advice, the purpose of which is to enable you to make informed decisions and to support you in a successful transfer to working life beyond education. - PAGE 07

INCLUSIVITY 16-19 Bursary Fund The 16-19 Bursary Fund is designed to help support you if you face specific barriers to continuing in education or training at post 16. The fund has two elements: bursaries for vulnerable young persons (Vulnerable Bursary) and discretionary bursaries for young people facing financial barriers to participation (Discretionary Bursary). Bursary funds are to be used to help pay for the costs related to participation in full-time education, such as the costs of transport, meals, books and equipment. Some payments may be made in kind. Payment may be withheld if you do not comply with the Sixth Form s expectations on: - Behaviour - Performance - Attendance - Commitment. Full details on whether you are eligible and how to apply for the bursary can be found on our website. - PAGE 08 -
