Dr. Axel has managed teachers at all levels of development and has developed and delivered curriculum for children, adolescents, and adults. He has developed strong research and editing skills and has applied them to curricula, governmental reports, and as a subject-matter expert. He has met objectives in providing professional development for teachers in Africa, the Middle East, and the United States for stakeholders such as: the US Department of State; the Iraqi Ministry of Education; the Ministry of Education of the Republic of the South Sudan; and Arizona State University. Professional Experience Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona (08/2013 Present): Instructor in ASU s ESL program, Global Launch (GL). In addition to teaching a variety of levels within the core and elective schedule, other responsibilities have included: Primary Investigator / Project Manager of $162K United States Department of State (USDoS), Bureau of Educational & Cultural Affairs (BECA) project (2016-2017). Responsibilities and activities include: o Authored proposal and was awarded project; o Manager of 15 Iraqi professors in facilitating 350 other Iraqi teachers through a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) teaching English language teaching methodologies; o Manager of ASU student workers in developing online content and videos; o Point of contact (POC) with the USDoS, regional English language officer at the US Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, and liaison between multiple departments at ASU. Primary Investigator / Project Manager of $225K USDoS, BECA project (January- September 2016). Responsibilities and activities included: o Authored proposal and was awarded project; o Manager of ASU faculty in developing content for a learning management system (LMS) for Iraqi English teachers including teaching materials, videos, and supplementary curriculum to Iraqi national curriculum; o Planned logistics for trip to Iraq which entailed coordinating venues and Iraqi professors as well as registering for the US Department of Defense s (DoD) Synchronized Predeployment and Operational Tracker (SPOT) system. The trip was cancelled by ASU s Risk Management due to ongoing military operations; o Manager of 10 Iraqi professors in facilitating 150 other Iraqi teachers through a MOOC teaching English language teaching methodologies; o Frequently provided lectures via Skype and Messenger to Iraqi teachers and colleges students; o Communicated daily via Viber, Skype, and Messenger with Iraqi professors and the POC in the Iraqi Ministry of Education; o Developed and delivered multifaceted research project on the state of education, teaching, and learning English in Iraq to the USDoS and the Iraqi Ministry of Education.

Primary Investigator / Project Manager on a $1.4 million USDoS grant funded through the US Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq: Advanced Teacher Training for Iraqi English Teachers onground at ASU (2015). Responsibilities and activities included: o Managing ASU faculty in the development and delivery of the curriculum for the teacher training program and observing faulty on a daily basis in classroom instruction; o Instructing Iraqi teachers in the teaching of literature, classroom observations, and conversation clubs; o Conducting a needs analysis, then developed and delivered weekly seminars on special educational topics tailored to the Iraqi educational context; o Managing support staff in providing extracurricular activities such as visits to museums, sporting events, theatrical performances, and tours; o Delivering a comprehensive report on the activities of the training program and provided an analysis of each professor s performance within the program; o Reporting on, tracking and finding Iraqis seeking asylum who left the training program and left the state of Arizona without permission; o Leading yoga classes for Iraqi professors. Director of ASU-wide and Brazilian Science Mobility Program s (BSMP) conversation groups (2015). Responsibilities and activities included: o Managing student workers; o Developing curriculum and activities; o Engaging and advising international PhD candidates and students; o Advising BSMP students. Liaison between GL and Advanced Studies in Global Education (2015). Responsibilities and activities included: o Integrating high school teachers from the South Sudan and Rwanda into expanded academic services including elective courses and conversation clubs; o Engaging and advising African teachers in curriculum development and teaching methodology; o Guiding ASU faculty in working with African teachers. Liaison between GL and Advising in the College of Engineering (2015). Responsibilities and activities included: o Developing academic interventions with engineering advisors for BSMP students not meeting academic objectives; o Tracking underperforming students progress. Grant writer on projects involving leadership, economics, and teacher training (ongoing); Instructor in International Teaching Assistant program Axel Editing & Translation, LLC (06/2004 Present): Owner /CEO: AET provides a number of services related to language such as tutoring, editing, résumé development, advertising, and translations. Major projects have included: o Editing an online, English-language-development program for the Department of Education for the country of Jordan subcontracted through CISCO; o Developing a 10-day seminar on second-language acquisition and delivering it to a group of teachers in Beijing, China who are now in the United States teaching Mandarin;

o Editing dissertations, theses, curriculum vitaes, and project proposals; o Translating a helicopter manual from English to Spanish for Honeywell; Career Education Corporation, Scottsdale, Arizona (08/2004-12/2012): On-ground instructor of Business English and online instructor of English Composition- Responsibilities included developing curriculum, writing text for Organizational Psychology and Research Writing, and academic coaching. Additional responsibilities included: o Advising administrators on obviating student attrition; o Advisement on policy development and adherence; o Developing of a training program for faculty members.
