PARAMEDIC PROGRAM INFORMATION Summer 2016 Thank you for your interest in the Ridgewater College Paramedic program. Please read the following information carefully and let us know if you have any questions. Overview The Ridgewater College Paramedic program offers two options. The 42 credit diploma is designed for experienced EMT s and includes only core Paramedic coursework. The 64 credit AAS degree includes the same core Paramedic courses, and adds EMT, BLS, and general education/science courses. The Ridgewater College Paramedic program is committed to providing the highest quality Emergency Medical Paramedic program with rigorous and comprehensive online didactic instruction, extensive hands-on educational/training labs, and broad clinical and field experiences. In addition to maintaining the standards established by CAAHEP, our program outcomes include academic and professional standards designed to meet the expectations of Health Care Organizations and ensure that graduates are prepared to provide safe and effective patient care. Note: Prerequisites to the core paramedic courses include current certification as an EMT. Paramedic labs will be held two Saturdays per month from 8:00am-4:30pm. Course delivery includes a blend of classroom and/or web-based lecture and on-site lab sessions. In addition, ambulance and hospital clinicals will require approximately 600 hours scheduled at ambulance and healthcare facilities at multiple locations. Note, clinical assignment requirements include both hours and specific patient contacts, and the hours required to complete the patient contacts may impact the total clinical hours for each student.

Paramedic AAS Admission Requirements Students have to complete the all of Paramedic Admissions Requirements before being accepted and allowed to enroll in the Paramedic core courses which start each Summer Session. If all of the admission requirements have not been completed, students will initially receive a tentative acceptance in the Paramedic program, and it is their responsibility to provide documentation to the college as they complete remaining requirements. Please submit the attached checklist when you have completed all of the requirements. This will secure your place for the summer Paramedic courses at the site you prefer. You are not guaranteed a spot in paramedic core classes unless the following have been completed and documentation provided. Paramedic Admission Requirements Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification. Completed Paramedic Entrance Exam See attached Information for details Accuplacer assessment examination. If you have taken courses at another MNSCU college/university please list them on your college application so we can get your official transcripts. If you have college transcripts from a private or out of state college/ university you will need to request that official copies be sent directly to the Admissions Office Attention: Stacey Kohn If you have any questions regarding admission, please contact Brian Ehlenbach, Paramedic Program Director at 1-800-722-1151 or brian.ehlenbach@ridgewater.edu. The application to the Paramedic AAS degree can be completed online at: www.ridgewater.edu, or you can print and submit a paper copy.

Other Important Requirements after Application/Acceptance In addition to the admissions requirements, completion of background study and immunizations are mandatory. You will be contacted regarding these items by the Paramedic program prior to starting classes. Accepted Paramedic students who do not fulfill these requirements will lose their space in the program. MN Department of Health and Human Services background study is required for all students. An individual may be disqualified from having patient contact and would not be permitted to participate in the clinical experience. o Note, the background study is completed by the college when the student enrolls for summer term classes. Individuals with concerns or questions should discuss with the Paramedic Advisor. Completion of the Health Information Packet which includes documentation of current immunizations for rubella, chicken pox and mumps (Hepatitis B and a Mantoux test is also required), and a physical examination. o The Physical Examination and Health Information Packet should be completed prior to the Paramedic Orientation session. Individuals with concerns or questions should discuss with the Paramedic Advisor. The following is intended as a guide for students to plan when they should complete courses to complete the program within the one-year schedule Paramedic AAS Degree 64 credit Program Course Planner Prior to beginning courses, all previous transcripts should be evaluated for transfer credits.
