The IB Core
Theory of Knowledge Explores the nature of knowledge across disciplines Encourages an appreciation of other cultural perspectives Develops critical thinking Blended course
What have former students said about Theory of Knowledge? TOK gave me so much knowledge and skills for learning and in life! My whole outlook on life has changed, and the way I approach things has become more skeptical. I don't accept every single word my professors say, and I try to check validity in information as well as listen to all perspectives of different topics. In so much of our education, short-term thinking and grades are seen as most important. So much so, that often our skills, which will help us in the longer term, are left almost untouched..
Creativity Activity Service Encourages students to be involved in artistic pursuits, sports and community service Expands education beyond the classroom Develops well-rounded, culturally sensitive students
Extended Essay 4,000 words Offers the opportunity to investigate a research question of individual interest Familiarizes students with the independent research and writing skills expected at the university level
To Earn the diploma: Successfully complete the extended essay, TOK, and CAS requirements Successfully complete the internal and external requirements of 3 SL courses and 3 HL courses Earn a minimum of 24 points (each subject is graded on a 1 7 scale + a maximum of 3 points for the core elements of the programme)
Benefits of the IB Diploma Programme Students learn: Critical Thinking A strong international focus Time management Appreciate other cultures while embracing their own High level writing skills across curriculum Strong Research and analytical skills How to take high-stakes tests To be independent learners, decision- makers Skills necessary to be successful in the 21 st century
Benefits of the IB Diploma Programme Students earn weighted grades in high school IB courses. This protects and rewards our risk-takers. Students may earn US College credit and/or placement for IB Courses. IB students have higher university acceptance rates than the general population. IB students are better prepared for the rigor of college academic demands than non-ib students (IB and College Readiness Study) The International Baccalaureate Diploma is recognized by top universities in the US and throughout the world.
