Write your view on social hierarchy as depicted in the story The Gateman s Gift. 2. Make a flow chart listing the events that occur in the story Such Perfection. 3. After reading the story The Blind Dog, comment on the loyalty shown by the dog. IV. Project- Design a Book Cover of any one of the books you read during the summer vacations. Use any chart paper for your presentation. MATHEMATICS While you enjoy the extended summer break, do find time to refresh your understanding of concepts by attempting the following questions which are based on the topics studied in the first term. ALL the questions are to be solved NEATLY with steps in order in the math home work notebooks or on sheets of paper. Date of submission is the 8 th July I Find the square root of the following using the long division method. 1 4096 2 5184 3 11664 4 746496 II Express the following ratios as percentage 5 29:50 6 50:500 7 65:130 8 30:150 9 9:20 10 3;4 11 7:8 12 13:16 III Calculate 13 24% of 200 14 2.4% of 200

15 240% of 200 16 32% of 450 17 72% of 650 18 7.2% of 650 19 12.5% of 450 20 15% of 350 IV Find the SP when 21 CP = Rs 1540, loss = 5% 22 CP = Rs 760, loss = 3% V Find CP when 23 SP = Rs851, loss = 8% 24 SP = Rs 924 gain = 10% VI Construct a quadrilateral HEAT in which HE = 4.2 cm, EA = 3.5 cm, AT = 4 cm, HT = 3.2 cm and angle ABC = 75 Now let us learn some multiplication the Vedic way! Here is a general multiplication technique, by which any two numbers can be multiplied together in one line, by mere mental arithmetic. Read the examples below carefully. EXAMPLE 1 Find 74 8 Multiply each figure in 74 by 8 starting on the left.: 7 8 = 56 and 4 8 = 32. These are combined by carrying the 3 in 32 over to the 6 in 56 : 56, 32 5 9 2 So 74 8 = 592 EXAMPLE 2 Find 827 3 The three products are 8 3 24, 2 3 = 6, 7 3 = 21 The first two products are combined : 24,6 = 246. Thee is no carry here as 6 is a single figure, then 246 is combined with 21: 246,21 = 2481 So 827 3 = 2481 EXAMPLE 3 77 4 The products are 28, 28

And 28 So 77 4 = 308. + 28 308 I am sure you have gone through all the three examples very thoroughly. NOW Try at least 5 multiplication problems (in the HW notebook) based on above examples and show working as shown in the examples. Classes 8A,B and C You should have completed your presentation on microbes. To extend your knowledge about viruses look up the internet for information on Swine Flu. In order to spread awareness amongst the general public, gather information on the life cycle of the virus and the process of transmission of the disease to make a poster. Do not forget to include the precautions that one must take against the disease. Submit your posters on the 8th of July. SOCIAL SCIENCE Instructions: Complete the given assignments either on a printout of this worksheet or note down the questions in the Social Science home assignment notebook and write the answers. Map work to be done in the map book. Please bring the completed assignments to school on 8 th July, 2009. Assignment 1 Imagine you were the ruler of Plassey in the 1750 s. How would you have reacted to the various trading practices of the British merchants? ( 1mark) Plassey derived its name from the Palash flower found abundantly in that region.
