Understanding Characters One day Hare said to Tortoise, You have such short legs, and you walk so slowly. How do you ever get anywhere? Tortoise replied, You are fast, Hare, but if we had a race, I would beat you. Introduce Comprehension: Understanding Characters You could never beat me, laughed Hare. Let s have a race, said Tortoise. You will see. The race began, and Hare ran much faster than Tortoise. Hare got so far ahead, he thought he had time to take a nap and still win the race.
