The City of Des Moines fosters international relationships for economic cooperation and cultural exchange with five nations. The Sister Cities include Kofu, Japan; Saint-Etienne, France; Shijiazhuang, China; Stavropol, Russia and Provincia di Catanzaro, Italy. The visit of Vice Mayor Andrey Dzhatdoev and the Stavropol delegation is an important part of the Sister City Commission s three year plan to foster business, cultural and educational ties between the various entities in the Greater Des Moines area and Stavropol, Russia, said Darlene Blake, Chair of the Greater Des Moines Sister City Commission. On Sunday, June 23 rd the Sister City Commission will welcome the delegation which includes: 1. Vice Mayor of the City of Stavropol, Andrey Dzhatdoev 2. First Deputy Head of the Stavropol Administration; 3. Chair of the Prosperity, Economic Development, Trade and Investment Committee of the Stavropol Duma or City Council; 4. General Director of the JSC Stavropol Brewery ; 5. Director of Stavropol Gymnasium or School # 24; 6. An English teacher from the Stavropol Presidential Cadet Center. 2 Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie will host an official lunch for the delegates where the official Plan of Cooperation between Stavropol and the Greater Des Moines area will be signed. Governor Terry Brandstad and Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds, city officials and business leaders will also meet with the delegation. Stavropol and Des Moines have had a long, successful relationship as Sister Cities and this visit will highlight the ongoing mutual cooperation between the two.
