BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE Warren Homer Martin, a former Baptist minister, was appointed vice-president of the United Automobile Workers-American Federation of Labor (UAW-AFL) union in 1935. In 1936, union members voted in Martin as the UAW-AFL's first elected president. After a turbulent career with the UAW-AFL and the UAW-CIO, Martin left the labor union movement in 1941. SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE The Warren Homer Martin papers contain two accessions. Accession 661 includes incoming and outgoing correspondence with labor unions, official union communications, press releases, speeches and telegrams. Some of the correspondents include Francis J. Dillon, first appointed president of the UAW-AFL and William Green, president of the AFL. Accession 661 is entirely on microfilm. Accession 824 contains incoming and outgoing correspondence with labor unions, newspaper clippings about labor songs and union labels, pamphlets and speeches.
