Feeder Alignment Process
Conceptual Plan (December 2013) DeJONG-RICHTER developed a conceptual model of what a cleaner feeder structure may look like. It was developed before the Population and Survey Analysts [PASA] Demographic Update report. Was not a deliverable in the Facilities Master Plan.
Process Draft Preliminary Feeder Structure Developed internally Guided by Policy Present Feeder Structure to Public for Feedback Develop Implementation Plan
Implementation (New Schools) ES 46 @ Aliana Opening 2015-16 May impact: Oakland, Jordan, Holley, Oyster Creek, Lakeview, Mission West ES 47 @ Riverstone Opening 2016-17 May impact: Commonwealth, Colony Meadows, Colony Bend, Settlers Way
Implementation (Boundary Changes) Burton May be feasible for 2015-16 Goodman May be feasible for 2015-16 Schiff May be feasible for 2015-16 Heritage Rose May be feasible for 2015-16 Brazos Bend / Walker Station May be feasible for 2015-16
Implementation (Feeder Alignment) Cornerstone (Sartartia) - from Kempner to Clements May be feasible for 2015-16 Palmer (Lake Olympia) - from Elkins to Hightower May be feasible for 2015-16 Barrington Place (Sugar Land) Split between Kempner / Sugar Land and Dulles / Dulles May be feasible for 2015-16
Implementation (Feeder Alignment) Drabek (Garcia) - from Kempner / Austin to Kempner. May be feasible for 2015-16 First Colony Currently Feeding Clements / Elkins / Ridge Point / Kempner May be feasible for 2017-18 when MS 15 opens Parks Currently Feeding Baines / Hightower, move to Lake Olympia / Hightower May be feasible for 2015-16
Feeder Pattern Guiding Principles Policy set by the Board of Trustees Strategic thought, NOT TACTICAL We are not talking about moving the boundaries from Elm Street to Oak Street Special program consideration is not an objective
FBISD Policy: FC (LOCAL) Maintain the neighborhood concept Prevent and eliminate overcrowding Allow for future growth Keep distances traveled by students as short as possible Minimize the need for student transportation Allow campuses to house students safely and provide adequate services to all students
Terminology Feeder Pattern The way in which an elementary school feeds into a middle school and in which a middle school feeds into a high school.
Terminology Boundary Change The act of changing the school that a specific address or student is assigned to. This generally happens outside of a transition year.
Feeder Splits A feeder split occurs when a population of students divides between two or more schools in transition to the next grade level. Splits can occur between elementary and middle schools, and between middle schools and high schools.
Feeder Splits Why is it important to strive for clean feeder patterns? Cohorts of students stay together as they advance through the system Educational Program continuity Builds community / school spirit Proactive way to anticipate the future
Feeder Splits How many feeder splits do you think currently exist in FBISD? Elementary to Middle? Middle to High? 34 6 16 5

FAQ What was used as the basis for drafting these proposed feeder patterns? FC (LOCAL)
FAQ Which boundaries are going to change and when? The implementation plan is ongoing and will be guided by community feedback. Current boundary scenarios for 2015-16: ES 46: Oakland, Jordan, Holley, Oyster Creek, Lakeview, Mission West ES 47: Commonwealth, Colony Meadows, Colony Bend, Settlers Way Feeder and/or Utilization Balance: Schiff, Heritage Rose, Goodman, Burton, Brazos Bend, Walker Station
FAQ How will implementation impact students who are rising 5 th graders or 8 th graders? Consideration will be made during the implementation process.
Your Feedback All materials along including, feeder patterns and maps, video of the presentation, and online versions of the questionnaires will be available on the FBISD website. The Questionnaires will remain open until 11:59 pm on Nov. 12 th
