CAPES is a public foundation linked to the Ministry of Education Created in 1951 MAIN ACTIVITIES Accredits and evaluates Brazilian graduate programs; Provides scholarships and grants for graduate, masters and PhD studies and post-doctoral research in Brazilian and foreign Universities; Offers financial support to graduate courses; Negotiates and implements international agreements on research exchange and cooperation; Provides access to Portal de Periódicos (Internet access to international scientific journals); Supports teacher training programs for Primary and Secondary Education (new activity since 2008); Maintains the Brazilian Open University - UAB (Distance learning).
