Dear Families, Newsletter Term 4 - Week 2, October 14th 2016 Curious, Confident, Connected Achieving Excellence From the Principal Team What a fabulous market Queen Vic Market watch out the Grade 6 HWPS Market has come to town. What a choice - donuts, face painting, lip gloss, frog-in-the-pond, smart socks, rockin rocks & yummy cakes. Congratulations to our grade 6 students and their teachers who planned and ran the market day! It was a resounding success and very well supported by students, staff and parents. A New Double Storey Portable is on it s way!! We are pleased to announce that due to our expanding enrolment and fixed facilities, our school is now eligible for new teaching spaces. The DET recently notified us that we will receive a multi storey relocatable building. This new relocatable building will be built and installed ready for the start of the 2017 school year. As part of our facilities upgrade the current Art Room will be removed and a new Art space will be created. This year we have 18 home groups, in 2017 we will have 20. Community Update HWPS Term 4 Fun! Big Night Out Saturday 22 nd October Judy and Mel have done an amazing job organising the biggest social event of the year and is almost upon us. We would love you to join us for a fabulous night of pizza, Prosecco & gelato. Great auction prizes are now available to bid on - read on for further details. HWPS Community Fair - Saturday 26 th November Today we enjoyed hearing of the progress from the Fair Committee. The committee members have been working hard in preparation for this year s big event. Please contact Kate Pickworth for further information especially if you are in a position to act as a major sponsor, or know someone who would be interested. Both community events are major school occasions and promise to be exciting as they provide a wonderful opportunity for our community to get together and celebrate. Events such as these can only occur with great planning. It will be terrific to have our families involved in these events and your support for our school and community is, as always greatly appreciated. 2017 Planning Student Placement Preparations for 2017 are well underway. It is vital at this stage that we receive any further information about students who may not be returning next year and that all enrolments for 2017 are completed. Over the next few weeks teachers will begin discussions relating to the formation of class groups. As in previous years, a number of factors are taken into account when placing students in class groups. If you have a social or academic concern about your child s 2017 class, please put it in writing to the Principal team by Friday October 28 th. Please do not request specific teachers as this will not be considered. Due to the complex process involved in placing students and the domino effect of moving a student once classes have been finalised, we regret that late requests cannot be accepted. Reminder Sun Smart Please remember that Term 4 is a sun smart term and we ask that all students wear an appropriate school sun smart hat. Thank you for you assistance with this. Congratulations to: the 5/6 Hooptime team who competed at the Hooptime Regional Finals on Wednesday the students who competed in the EMR Athletics Competition on Thursday Krystal (3/4) who entertained us when she played the Guzheng at assembly the rockband who had us toe tapping in our seats to their rendition of Just Like Fire. Warm Regards Glenys and Justine

P.E. News The HWPS Boys' All Star team competed at the Kew Division basketball championships on Wednesday. There was some very good basketball on display by all the teams competing. Even though the boys didn't progress to the next level, they had an excellent time running around with their mates, in what may be one of the last times they represent HWPS together in Sport before moving on to secondary school next year. Well done to those boys for putting in a mighty effort on the day and for reaching the Division level. The following students competed at the Eastern Metro Regional Athletics carnival yesterday and achieved some excellent results. Well done to the following for reaching Regionals and doing a fantastic job representing HWPS: Samantha Harris Clare W - 9th place 1500m & 4th place 200m; Bella N - 6th place High Jump ; Jacqui G - 5th place Shotput and Noah C - 4th place Long Jump.
