Panduan Pengajaran & Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggeris (Masalah Pendengaran) Tahun 4 INTRODUCTION Teaching and Learning Guidebook is provided as a reference for teachers to generate ideas, plan and execute a variety of teaching and learning activities. This guidebook is also expected to help teachers to understand the requirements of the Content and English Language Learning Standards (Hearing Impaired) Year 4 which is organized in the form of parts and units which contain elements of knowledge, skills and values. Teaching and Learning Guidebook is organised in five modules: Listening & Speaking (Seeing and Signing), Reading (Signing), Writing, Language Arts and Grammar to help teachers plan the teaching and learning based on focus skills. In the teaching and learning, teachers can diversify approaches to achieve the requirements of the Content and Learning Standards. Strategies as well as teaching and learning activities in this booklet are only a suggestion. Teachers are encouraged to use their own creativity to modify activities to suit the preparedness and ability of the hearing impaired pupils. vii

What do you like to do? When do you do? When do you do? - Name and describe the hobbies (ICT, EK2). Question and answers on each hobby. - Guess the hobby: A pupil is given a picture card and signs the hobby shown. The rest of the pupils pick out a picture card to match the sign shown. Pupils play a game. Pupils are divided into two groups. Each group is given a set of picture and sign cards. Pupil 1

takes 2 cards. The 2 cards must match. If it doesn t the card must put back at the same place. Pupils keep the sign and picture card if they match. Cut and paste - pupils match the pictures with signs given. PREPARATION PHASE ACTIVITY TEACHING AND LEARNING STRATEGY NOTES 1. Pupils decorate the cupcakes (creativity) o o Pupils are given a cupcake each. Different coloured icing is prepared. Teaching aids Cupcakes and icing o Pupils decorate their cupcakes according to their imagination with the coloured icing given. IMAGINATION PHASE ACTIVITY TEACHING AND LEARNING STRATEGY NOTES 1. Question and answers The teacher asks pupils: a. Which cupcake is beautiful? b. Who bakes cakes in the house? c. Do you like baking? d. When do you bake cakes? e. What do you do during your free time? Slide show of cupcakes 3

DEVELOPMENT PHASE ACTIVITY TEACHING AND LEARNING STRATEGY NOTES 1. Name and describe the hobbies. o Teacher shows power point presentation (TMK). Slide shows consist of pictures of hobbies o Teacher guides pupils to describe what they see and gives the sign to each hobby and asks these questions to guide them according to the hobby shown. a. What do you see? b. Who likes to do this hobby? c. When do you do them? a. Baking b. Sewing c. Gardening d. Reading e. Drawing f. Stamp collecting d. What do you do with the vegetables and flowers? e. With whom do you play chess with? f. What do you like to sew? g. What other countries stamps do you have? o Each pupil is given a picture card on a hobby. 2. Guess the hobby o Pupil signs the picture card shown. Other pupils look for the correct picture of the hobby signed. Then, pupil says I like.. 3. Play a game o Pupils play a game. o Pupils are divided into two groups. 2 sets of picture cards 2 sets of sign and picture cards o Each group is given a set of picture and sign cards. 4

Cut and paste o Pupils and teacher read the instructions on worksheet. o Pupils do the activity as instructed (refer to worksheet shown) Important skill to inculcate as pupils need to be trained to read instructions before an activity is carried out. 6
