(entral University) Department of Yoga Education (Y S 21) School of Educational Studies ( SES 20) The Department of Yogic Science was established in 1958. at Dr. Hari Singh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar ( Formerly University of Saugar) under the headship of Dr.Kalidas Joshi, a distinguished scholar of Yogic Science The department has adequate facilities for Under Graduate, Post Graduate, M.Phil. and Ph. D. Programmes. M.A./M.Sc.-Yogic Science Programme 1. M.A./M.Sc. in Yogic Science is a 4 Semester ourse. A candidate has to necessarily study for 4 semesters for this two years Master s Programme. 2. There shall be three following categories of ourses: A. ore ourses (Mandatory for all students registered for M.A./M.Sc.) B. Elective ourses (Mandatory) - student can choose these courses in and out side of the department to 1. specialize in one or more branches of the broad subject area, 2. acquire knowledge and skills in a related area that may have applications in the broad subject area and 3. bridge any gap in the curriculum and enable acquisition of essential skills.. Self-study ourses (Optional, Not mandatory)- Student may also choose three additional courses to acquire extra credits through self-study ( not to be taken into account for awarding grades/class). 3. Each course shall be covered in accordance with the respective credit value of the course. 1 credit shall be of one hour of formal meeting per week [ 1 credit course = 15 hours of instructions ( in the form of lectures and other methods) per semester. 4. In order to qualify for M.A./M.Sc. degree a student must acquire a minimum of 72 credits (including a minimum of 18 credits in electives choosing at least 2 electives from among electives offered by other department and 2 electives from among the electives offered by the parent department). 5. Each course shall be of 100 marks. 6. A candidate who has less than 75% attendance shall not be permitted to sit for the End- semester examination in the course in which the shortfall exists. 7. Evaluation will be done on a continuous basis, three times during each semester. There will be two session tests (Mid-semester examination) and one End-semester examination in each course in each semester.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) 1 What is yogic science? Ans.- In which we studies the scientific nature of yoga with both classical and modern interpretations. It is a science of self evolution which teaches us the microcosmic and macrocosmic nature of human soul. 2 What is importance of Yogic Science in Modern Life? Ans.- In present scenario Yoga is playing a crucial rate as alternative therapy for curing various physical, mental, social and spiritual ailments. It is also accepted by masses as the science and the art of living, which has provided the solution for many life style disorders because of so called modern life style. Presently the corporate the world is also very keen towards yoga as a solution to their various problems like in management, health etc. 3 Has it got any scientific basis? Ans.- Yoga being an ancient tradition also has a complete scientific basis and scientific approach. Modern studio and scientific researches have also re-established the authenticity and effectiveness of various yogic techniques. Yogic sciences not only deals with the physical or matter world but it also deals with the Para physical and Parapsychological dimensions. 4 How our University can be differentiated from others in terms of the courses offered in Yoga? Ans.- The courses which we offer in Yoga are designed to fulfill both the needs of students i.e. (i) to adopt it as professional courses after the completion of courses & (ii) to continue the studies in researches under the Ph.D. program. 5 What is the course all about? Ans.- In varied courses in yoga we teach the convergences and divergences with the modern sciences to yoga and derive unique methods and techniques which helps the students of yoga to interact in future with corporate culture, medical environment and so on. Ans.- Method of teaching is derived from the ancient Indian schools of thoughts developed in Takshila and Nalanda like Universities and their rational with the modern teaching methods with comfortable teacher and student relationship we are also uses modern teaching tools, like projects etc. 7 Are there any practical classes? Ans.- Yes, off course; Practical is the compulsory part of the courses. The course holds its importance and value because of its practical approach and techniques. 8 What are the career opportunities? Ans.- After the completion of the course you can apply for either higher studies in scientific research or can became a yoga professional and start your career as Yoga ounsellor, Yoga therapist, orporate Yoga Trainer or you can also start your own yoga centre or yoga clinic. 9 Is it approved subject by UG, AITE, or any education standard? Ans.- Yes. It is approved by UG. Detail has been given at the web. 10 Is the running syllabus relevant in present scenario? Ans.- Yes, the running syllabus is very relevant in present scenario. The main peculiarity of our syllabus is that we keep on revising it after teach session, so that it can match the standards and requirements of the ever changing scenario. For ex. in our master degree program we have also included the management s part so that the student can grow as corporate trainee, a very latest trend in the corporate sector. 11. What sort of courses are available in the department of yogic science? Ans.- Regular UG and PG Degree courses are available in Yogic Science along with three PG Diploma courses through Distance Education. Ans.- Yes, University conducts various workshops and seminars from time to time to show the practical utility. 13. Are various teaching AIDS and techniques used to improve the teaching methodology? Ans.- Yes 14. Are there provisions available for research programs? Ans.- Research is our main focus here. After completing the master s degree, the students of our University and from others are also invited for our Ph.D. programs. For making selections in research programs we organize a written entrance exam followed by viva-voca examination we have already set very tough standards for the eligibility for research programs, in order to match the international students.
