THE VENUES Bucca Rowing Centre The first two stages of this internationally recognized training and competition facility were completed in early 2000 for the Australian Rowing Team to train at in the lead up to the Sydney Olympics. These stages included a 2000 metre, 8 Lane buoyed course, together with the boat/equipment shed and the catering and ablutions block. Stage three focused on the construction of the 96 bed dormitory adjacent to the other buildings on the river bank. With the support of the Bundaberg Regional Council, Bucca Weir has been the regular host of the Queensland State Championships since the mid-1990's. Riverway The Riverway Rowing Club is located in Thuringowa, Townsville, on the Ross River and boasts some of the most consistently excellent water for rowing in Queensland. While only being able to run 5 lanes down the course, the course is extremely picturesque with the banks lined with overhanging trees for shade. Riverway is the regular host of the North Queensland Schools Championships, the North Queensland Club Championships and the Townsville Schools Head of the River as well as this year hosting the North Qld Games. Fitzroy River The Fitzroy River is one of five fully buoyed courses in Queensland, and the only one fully owned and managed by the local council. Renowned for its expansive, tree-filled boat park, excellent rowing conditions and the ability to row 40km upstream if desired; the course is also situated within the Rockhampton city limits, a five minute drive from both the Rockhampton CBD and Airport. The Fitzroy River has been the location of some of the biggest regattas in Queensland in recent years, including the Australian Masters Rowing Championships in 2005 and 2009 and has hosted many State Championships since completion of the Fitzroy River Barrage in the 1970 s. Wyaralong Dam The recently established Wyaralong Dam course near Beaudesert in the Scenic Rim is a fully buoyed 10 lane 2000m course. The course and surrounds are being developed by Rowing Queensland to cater for the future needs of the Queensland Rowing Community. The course is currently home to the Queensland State Championships, GPSA and BSRA regattas and the GCRASRA Trophy Regatta. Wyaralong is also used by the high performance athletes for training regularly, and is also host to the NTC Time Trials. 4 P a g e
