LTIT as Training Hub Model Institute for Industrial Practices LTIT is more than happy to guide other institutes in the successful implementation of industry practices. A team of eight staff from Vivekananda Engineering College, Chembur, visited LTIT to understand the procedure and benefits of 5S implementaiton. Mr. Darshan Shah explained the different stages of 5S implementaion and later the team visited the labs and classrooms to see the benefits of 5S implementation. X-Learn Team members from Vivekananda Engineering College with LTIT Principal and 5 S team X-Learn, the training programme for ITI instructors, was conducted from 22 to 26 July and 9 to 16 December 2013. The participants learned the latest developments in the technical field, nuances of softskills and received the guidance required for their jobs as instructors from the Brahmakumaris. Hub and Spoke The Hub and Spoke Model is an innovative brainchild of Mr. K Venkataramanan, CEO, L&T. He presented this idea in the National Convention of State Boards of Technical Education in the presence of Hon ble Shri. Kapil Sibal, Minister, HRD, Govt. of India. This activity has taken off well with L&T acting as the Hub Industry and LTIT functioning as the Hub Institute. Other industries and polytechnics are connected to these hubs. The purpose of this arrangement is to establish closer interaction between industry and institutes. Eleven polytechnics have been identified as Spoke institutes and they are attached to the Hub Institute (LTIT). Three key areas where Industry-Institute interaction will be strengthened are: Expert Lectures, Industrial Visits and Industry-based Project works for students. A number of activities have been already conducted. This model will bring rich rewards to both, nstitutes and students.
