Our uniform policy and dress codes have been drawn up in consultation with students, parents, staff and governors. Policy Aims A high standard of personal appearance is expected of, and from, all students. Through our uniform policy and dress codes we aim to: encourage pride in the school; encourage a sense of equality and cohesion; protect students from social pressures to dress in a particular way; support teaching and learning; provide a safe and secure environment in which students learn how to dress appropriately. In these ways, the uniform and dress codes support the overall aims of the school. 1. Key roles and responsibilities 1.1. The Governing Body has overall responsibility for the implementation of the School Uniform Assistance Policy and procedures of St Bede s & St Joseph s Catholic College 1.2. The Governing Body has overall responsibility for ensuring that the School Uniform Assistance Policy, as written, does not discriminate on any grounds, including but not limited to ethnicity/national origin, culture, religion, gender, disability or sexual orientation. 1.3. The Governing Body has overall responsibility for reviewing the School Uniform Assistance Policy annually. 1.4. The Headteacher has responsibility for handling complaints regarding this policy as outlined in the school s Complaints Policy. 1.5. The Headteacher will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation and management of the School Uniform Policy and procedures of St Bede s & St Joseph s Catholic College
2. School Uniform Requirements 2.1. The school uniform for Year 7 boys/girls from September 2014 is; Blazer - Grey with school badge * School Pullover*(optional) Black School trousers with school badge* Black School Skirt with school badge* White formal shirt/blouse to be worn with school tie School tie* Black leather shoes (flat, no heels, no boots, no trainers) Girls wearing skirts to wear plain black tights Physical Education & Games School Sports Shirt* School Sports Shorts* School Sports Skort (girls)* School Rugby Shirt* Trainers Black one piece swimming costume (girls) Black swimming trunks (boys) no Bermuda shorts Jewellery and facial or body piercings are not permitted. Extreme hair colours and styles are not permitted. The school uniform for St Bede s boys from Year 8 and St Joseph s girls from Year 8 2014 to remain unchanged (see appendix for uniform lists)
3. School Uniform Assistance 3.1. St Bede s & St Joseph s Catholic College supports vulnerable families in meeting the costs of uniforms. 3.2. School uniform assistance is worth 26 per academic year to be spent on school clothing. 3.3. School uniform assistance eligibility criteria is as follows: Children must attend St Bede s & St Joseph s Catholic College and fit into one of the following categories Children must be in receipt of free school meals (as directed to the school via Bradford Council Revenues and Benefits) Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 Looked After Children (Children in Care) 3.4. Families who meet the criteria and wish to claim assistance must complete the forms at the end of this policy and return it to the school office. 3.5. Families experiencing other difficult circumstances can apply with the application form and attach a letter detailing circumstances which will be considered at the discretion of the Headteacher/Governors 3.6. Successful claims will be communicated in writing to parents with instructions on which supplier to attend to redeem the 26 worth of school uniform. 3.7. Unsuccessful claims Parents/Guardians can write a letter of appeal which will be looked at by the Governing Body 4. School Uniform Suppliers 4.1. The budget for the School Uniform Assistance scheme will come from the Pupil Premium fund. 5.2. Eligibility shall be determined by checking documents from the relevant authority (Bradford Council Revenue & Benefits ((FSM)) detailing the receipt of the benefit and the address of the student. 5.3. St Bede s & St Joseph s Catholic College will only make one payment per child per academic school year. School Uniform Assistance Application Form Children who attend St Bede s & St Joseph s Catholic College can receive School Uniform Assistance if; They are in receipt of Free School Meals Receive support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 Are Looked After Children in care of the Local Authority Please return the following form to the school office:
