Ancient Egypt Projects Guidelines, Expectations, and Requirements Purpose: The purpose of this packet is to: 1. provide guidelines for the four tier project development efforts. 2. provide standards and expectations for project completion. 3. provide study criteria of grade level expectations for social studies. a. characteristics of a civilization - art, technology, social structure, government, writing, religion, and stable food supply. Overview: The contents of this packet are intended to provide direction to student groups. Each group is responsible for completing the following projects as evidence of student learning concerning the civilization of Ancient Egypt. 1. Research project 2. Slideshow presentation 3. Television broadcast 4. Quiz Project Details: Each project is broken down into its critical components. Student groups would be well advised to refer back to these criteria often while developing and finalizing their projects. 1. Project descriptions a. Research project or Newspaper articles i. Each group is responsible for researching three (3) different key topics within their civilization characteristic. Each of these topics will be written into an expository essay format. Alternately, the three topics may be written into newspaper articles. The purpose of each research paper or newspaper is to teach other students in our class. ii. The three (3) papers will be combined into one group research project. The combined project will include a thesis topic, an introduction, and a conclusion. Additionally, the combined project will have a title page, a table of contents, pictures, and a bibliography of resources used. iii. If the newspaper format is the chosen method, the group is responsible for completing the formatting and writing to complete an entire newspaper. It should be complete with a variety of sections editorial section, comic strip, sports and more. b. Slideshow i. Utilize research papers' information to develop a presentation which will be given to classmates. ii. Must include pictures and/or video streaming which supports topic concentration. iii. Follow the slideshow rubric as taught by Mr. Hurley. For each slide there will be no more than six lines of text - no more than six words per line. iv. Must include the following pages - a title page, map of Ancient Egypt, and a reference page. c. Group presentation using a television broadcast format. i. All group members have a speaking requirement. ii. The broadcast will last from 10 to 15 minute as a time requirement. iii. The broadcast will include a commercial of the groups choice. iv. There is also a requirement for each group to provide artifacts and resources. d. Develop a quiz for classmates to complete. i. Vocabulary section - matching word to definition ii. I. Slideshow Guidelines. Slideshow and Presentation Specifics A. Slideshows should consider the following elements. 1. Overview of the seven civilization concepts. 2. Define and specify area of study. 3. Contain appropriate headings. 4. Contain appropriate pictures finished off with borders. 5. Contain minimal use of clip art. 6. Contain a short clip of video streaming related to topic. 7. Contain a sources cited page. 8. Have consistent and appropriate slide designs and transitions. II. Presentation Guidelines. A. Presentations must consider the following elements. 1. The presentation should last between 10 to 15 minutes. 2. All team members should dress professionally. 3. All team members must have a speaking part. 4. Contain appropriate transitions between research topics. 5. Contain at least one student made artifact that relates to the team's research.
