I. ABOUT LAW GURU Law Guru is a law coaching institute established in January 2010 by Adv. Gajanan Choudhary (LL.M.) with a goal of enriching legal education in Pune, Maharashtra. Law Guru as a coaching institution aims to bridge the gap between the legal education and the practicing world. As a coaching institute we not only impart theoretical knowledge but also practical legal knowledge. It provides coaching for B.A.,LL.B.; LL.B.; LL.M.; JMFC; NET/SET; Ph.D. Entrance, Law Entrance (UG) & (PG); Competitive Exams and on every subject of law. It has also published books on various subjects of law. In near future it plans to publish books on all subjects of law and various law entrances. Apart from this it has digitalized itself by publishing its website and mobile application. Law Guru ensures that its students stand firm and high in the legal arena. It provides students with opportunities for development in all spheres of law. It has made its presence felt amongst law students in Pune within a short span of time. The institution aims and is dedicated to create a new generation of responsible and equipped law graduates who will be capable of contributing to the legal fraternity, country and humanity. Currently it operates only in the city of Pune but in future it plans to expand in different cities of State of Maharashtra.

II. AIMS & PURPOSES OF MOOT COURT: 1. To encourage their participation by providing a more flexible platform for mooting opportunities. 2. To expose students who are pursuing law to the nuances of the court system in India and to sharpen advocacy skills. 3. To provide a real life experience cum training in doing research, presenting ground breaking arguments and contributing to the development of jurisprudence in the concerned area of laws. 4. To provide students a better understanding of ethics in practice. III. RULES AND REGULATIONS: 1. Schedule: Sr. No. Dates Events 1) 30/11/17 Release of Moot problem and rules of the moot court competition. 2) 3/1/2018 Last date of Registration & Payment (online/offline). 3) 10/1/18 Memorial submission for selection round (only email). 4) 20/1/18 Selection of Memorial (List of approved memorials). 5) 30/1/18 Final Confirmation & Payment (INR 1000/-). 6) 11/2/18 Day of Event. 2. Date &Venue: It will be informed later. Date 11/Feb/2018 3. Eligibility: The competition shall be open for law students who are currently pursuing their - (a) 5 years LLB Programme in India, or (b) 3 years LLB Programme in India. 4. Team Composition: 1) Each team must consist of 3 members only. 2) Team of 3 must consist of - 1) 2 speakers & 2) 1 researcher. 3) Team shall neither disclose their identity nor of their institution. Each team shall be represented by their respective team code as allotted after the selection round; and if the same is not adhered to, they shall be subject to disqualification. 4) Team members can be from different colleges.

5. Language: The entire proceeding conducted during the competition shall be in English only (whether oral or written). 6. Dress Code: The participants shall adhere to the following dress code when present inside the court room. A. Female Counsel White Salwar Kurta or white shirt & black trousers along with black coat & black shoes. B. Male Counsel White shirt, black trousers, black tie along with black coat & black shoes. Note: The above-mentioned dress code to be followed while attending the inaugural & valedictory ceremony of the competition. 7. Registration: Registration for participation of teams is mandatory. Registration is not limited to any specific number of teams. Registration process: Each team is required to fill online or offline registration form available at our website - www.lawguru.org or at Law Guru Classes, 33\15 Prashant Bungalow, above BTW Visa Services, Opposite Garware College, Karve Road, Deccan, Pune -4. Initial Registration Fees INR 500/- On approval of Memorial INR 1000/-. 8. Format of the Competition: The competition is divided into - A. Selection round, B. Preliminary round, C. Advance rounds - 1) Quarter final round 2) Semi final round 3) Final round. A. Selection Round: Out of the registered teams, only 60 teams shall be selected based on their Memorial for the Preliminary round. Selected teams shall be notified through email or phone call. B. Preliminary Round: Selected 60 teams will be competing against each other. Out of 60 teams 30 teams will qualify for advanced round. One team out of the two competing teams shall have a winner. The side from which the team shall argue will be decided through draw of lots.

C. Advanced Round: It shall consist of Quarter Finals, Semi Finals, Finals. 1) Quarter Final: Top 30 teams from preliminary round will qualify for this round. One team out of the two competing teams shall have a winner. 2) Semi Final: Top 16 teams will qualify for this round on the knock out basis. 15 teams will be selected through quarter final and 1 team shall be selected by organising committee as wild card entry. One team out of the two competing teams shall have a winner. 3) Final Round: Top 8 teams will qualify for the finals. Out of 8 teams top 4 teams will be awarded as winner and 1 st, 2 nd, & 3 rd Runner- Up. Note: The side from which the teams shall argue shall be decided through draw of lots conducted prior to the each round. The decision of the presiding judges shall be final and binding on all participating teams & organizing committee. 9. Oral Argument: 1) Preliminary Round - (a) Each team is allotted a total of 15 minutes to present their arguments. (b) Each team shall be allotted 12 minutes and 3 minutes for judge s question & answer. (c) The time allotted will be coordinated by the court room master. (d) One speaker must plead minimum ONE issue. (e) The allotment of extra time shall be at the discretion of the judges. 2) Quarter Final Round - (a) Each team is allotted a total of 15 minutes to present their arguments (b) Each team shall be allotted 12 minutes and 3 minutes for judge s question & answer. (c) The time allotted will be coordinated by the court room master. (d) One speaker must plead minimum ONE issue. (e) The allotment of extra time shall be at the discretion of the judges. 3) Semi- Final Round - (a) Each team is allotted a total of 25 minutes to present their arguments (b) Each team shall be allotted 20 minutes inclusive judge s question & answer and 5 minutes will be allotted for rebuttal and sur-rebuttal.

(c) The time allotted will be coordinated by the court room master at the point of the time. (d) One speaker must plead minimum ONE issue. (e) The allotment of extra time shall be at the discretion of the judges. 4) Final Round - (a) Each team is allotted a total of 25 minutes to present their arguments (b) Each team shall be allotted 15 minutes and 5 minutes for judge s question & answer and 5 minutes will be allotted for rebuttal and sur-rebuttal. (c) The time allotted will be coordinated by the court room master at the point of the time. (d) One speaker must plead minimum ONE issue. (e) The allotment of extra time shall be at the discretion of the judges. 5) Judging Parameters for oral arguments: Sr. No Parameters Marks Allotted 1) Acquaintance of Legal Knowledge of the Participants. 20 2) Application of law and facts into legal arguments. 20 3) Use of authorities and citation to support arguments 20 4) Presentation, court ethics and fluency in arguments. 20 5) Questions of judges and in rebuttal. 20 6) Deduction of penalties. Ascertaining Total Marks Out of 100 10. Memorial: A. Rules: The following rules shall be read carefully and strictly followed 1) Each memorial shall contain the details of the Participants in a separate sheet which shall be attached before the cover page of the memorial which shall be the 1 st page of the memorial. Following details to be mentioned 1) Name of the participants, 2) E-Mail Id, 3) Contact Number, 4) Name of the college. 2) Each team will prepare memorials from both sides (Plaintiff and Defendant) 3) Each Memorial will comprise of 100 Marks. Memorial marks will be ascertained after deduction of the penalties.

4) Teams should send memorials from both sides on lawguru123@gmail.com. or submit hard copy at Law Guru Institute. 5) The memorial should not exceed total of 30 Pages including ancillary pages. 6) Memorials should be drafted on A4 Size Paper printed on one side of the paper. 7) Memorial should be spiral bound. 8) 19 th Edition Bluebook Citation Format is to be followed for Footnotes. B. Format of the Memorial: The Memorial Should Comprise - 1) The Cover page - a) The cover page shall contain the case title, side of the memorial, year of the competition and name of the court. b) The selected teams only shall mention the Team Code (It shall be provided after selection round and to be mentioned at the Top Right Corner). 2) Table of Contents. 3) List of Abbreviations. 4) Index of Authorities - Index of authorities shall contain Cases Referred, Books, Commentaries, Legislations and Articles etc. The index shall contain each authority used, it should include the page numbers of the memorial on which each authority is cited. 5) The Statement of Jurisdiction. 6) The Statement of Facts - The statement of facts shall not exceed 1 Page. It should be limited and should not include irrelevant facts or unsupported facts etc. 7) The Statement of Issues. 8) The Summary of Arguments - The summary of arguments shall contain summary of arguments advanced. It shall contain only substantive argumentative statements excluding case laws or legal authorities. 9) The Arguments Advanced - The arguments advancements should not exceed 15 pages. 10) The Prayer. 11) The cover page should be Blue in color for plaintiff and Red in color for defendant. 12) Font for the memorial - (a) Font: Times New Roman (b) Font size: 12 (c) Footnotes size: 10 (d) Heading font size: 14 (e) Line spacing 1.5 (f) Margin spacing 1.0 (All 4 sides of the page). Judging Parameters for Memorial: Sr. No Parameters Marks Allotted 1) Knowledge of law and facts 20

Researcher s Test: a) Researcher of the team which qualifies the preliminary round shall be qualified to take the researchers test. b) The researcher test shall contain questions and answers related to relevant laws and moot problem. 12. Awards and Prizes: 1) WINNER of the Competition: (a) Cash Prize of Rs 1,00,000/- (b) A Participation Certificate (c) A Winning Trophy 2) 1 st Runner up: (a) Cash Prize of Rs 35,000/- (b) A Participation Certificate (c) A Runners-Up Trophy 3) 2 nd Runner up: (a) Cash Prize of Rs 15,000/- (b) A Participation Certificate (c) A Runners-Up Trophy 4) 3 rd Runner up: (a) Cash Prize of Rs 10,000/- (b) A Participation Certificate (c) A Runners-Up Trophy 5) Best Researcher Award: (a) Cash Prize of Rs 10,000/-

Penalties and Disqualification: 1) Memorial penalties: Penalties will be imposed on the memorial and is subject to deduction of marks. Penalties shall be imposed on the following grounds - (a) Exceeding page limit as prescribed (b) Late submission (c) Inappropriate formatting (d) Difference between hard copy and soft copy (e) Copying of ancillary pages or issues (f) Plagiarism will be tested (g) Important - If various memorials are being drafted in Same Context it will be subject to deduction of marks. Originality of thoughts is expected from the participants. 2) Oral pleading penalties: i) The judges shall impose penalties and can deduct marks on their discretion. ii) The grounds based on which marks will be deducted (a) Scouting - Using laptops or any other such devise in the court room. (b) Exceeding the time limit as allotted to each speaker. (c) Inappropriate communication. (d) Inappropriate behaviour. 3) Disqualification: The participants will be disqualified on the following grounds - (a) Skipping oral pleadings, (b) Teams revealing their identity, (c) Substantive copying of the memorial, (d) Scouting. (e) Important - if memorials are drafted comprising of Same Text it will lead to disqualification.

14. Payment Structure - Per Team: 1) Registration Fees - INR 500/-. 2) On approval of Memorial - INR 1000/-. 3) Accommodation & Transportation (within Pune): 1500/-. Note: On making online payment, teams have to forward the successful payment message either through text or email. Payment gateway is provided on our website www.lawguru.org 15. Accommodation and Food: Accommodation and transportation shall be provided only to outside Pune participants and to avail the same, participants must contact the concerned authority immediately after selection round is completed. There shall be complimentary Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. 16. Registration Form www.lawguru.org V. Spectators: All rounds will be Open to Public. The organizing authority may at its own discretion, disallow any person who unnecessarily interrupts or disturbs the oral pleadings. Spectators are requested to maintain professionalism in court rooms and shall maintain decorum of the court.

For Participating Candidates, only the teams which will be arguing shall be present in the court room. Participating member representing other teams should not be present in the courtroom not assigned.
