ISTITUTO D ISTRUZIONE SUPERIORE DI PRIMIERO A.S. 2011-2012 LANGUAGE WEEK BROADSTAIRS MARCH 2012 As a tradition four classes of our school (all 3 rd year) went to England from March 26 to April 2 for the annual language week. This year we went to Broadstairs, a little town by the seaside on the south-eastern coast of Kent. We flew to Stansted airport from Treviso and a coach took us straight to Broadstairs. We stayed in English families in pairs. From Monday to Friday we went to classes at the Kent School of English in the mornings. In the afternoons and in the evenings we had different activities organized. Over the week we visited London, Canterbury and Cambridge. Here is the description of our week in England with a photo gallery of the most meaningful and funny moments. March 26 th We departed from Treviso airport at 3.00pm and arrived in Stansted at 5.00. We were taken to Broadstairs and we met our host families. We had our first evening meal with an English family. It was fun even though we were tired because of the journey. March 27 th In the morning we met in Vere Road where we were introduced to our activity assistants, Ben and Richard, who accompanied us to London by coach. Once we got there we were split into two groups and we began our visit of the city starting from the Embankment.

We headed for the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Downing Street, Buckingham Palace, St. James s Park, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square, our meeting point. We were left free for a couple of hours and went shopping. London was gorgeous and we really enjoyed it. There were lots of people around. We also saw some Scottish football supporters dancing and making a noise in Trafalgar Square. March 28 th In the morning we met at the Kent School of English in Granville road. We took a placement test and we were put in international classes according to our level of English. So we had the opportunity of meeting a lot of students from all over Europe, who like us, were in Broadstairs to improve their English. At lunch we usually had our meal in the many restaurants in Broadstairs. In the afternoon we had the KSE observation quiz at the clock tower. We had to find our way around the town answering questions as we went along. In the evening we went to the local cinema and saw the film The Adjustment Bureau, with Matt Damon. March 29 th In the morning we had classes and in the afternoon we caught the train to Margate, a place 10 minutes from Broadstairs. We went there to play ten pin bowling. In the evening we met at Morelli s, the most popular ice-cream café in Broadstairs. There was a band of musicians who played lots of famous songs and we also had the chance to play and sing with them. It was fun. March 30 th Classes in the morning. In the afternoon we met in Vere road to catch the bus for a visit of Canterbury. Once there, we went on a walk round the famous sights and an optional visit of Canterbury Cathedral and shopping. Unfortunately the weather was not brilliant. We had to get out our umbrellas for the first time. Not bad. It was the only rainy day we had over the week. In the evening KSE culture quiz. March 31 st In the morning classes. We had a different teacher every day. Great! In the afternoon we could choose from a selection of activities and sport options. We were very lucky with the weather and some of us chose to play football, volleyball and tennis. Other students chose to do arts and crafts at school. At 8 pm we met at Broadstairs Pavilion in Harbour Street for the KSE Barn Dance, traditional country dancing with a professional caller and live band. Lots of exercise and laughs. It was really fun because we practiced our two hand swing and dosie-do. April 1 st Our last day of classes. We said goodbye to our teachers. In the afternoon most of us chose to go for a walk along the beach to Ramsgate with our popular activity assistants Richard and Ben. In the evening we met at Bradstow Mill pub where we danced and had a lot of fun with the German and French groups. April 2 nd - With regret we had to say goodbye to our host families and were taken to Vere Road, our meeting point for departure. We left Broadstairs at 10am and headed for Cambridge where we had a lovely stop of about 4 hours. We visited the town centre and most of the colleges. It was full of young people and tourists, but there weren't many students around because most of them are on holiday at this time of the year. Cambridge is really fascinating and who knows...maybe one of us might go to university just here in two years...we left Cambridge at 4.30pm and went to the airport. By 10pm, Italian local time, we

were in Treviso. The flight was ok. A coach was waiting for us and took us straight to Primiero. Everything went well and we enjoyed our trip to the United Kingdom!!! Hope to go back soon... 3^ scientifico, turistico, geometri, impresa Istituto d'istruzione Superiore di Primiero and group leaders (M.Collesel, G.D Agostini, E.Tissot) PHOTO GALLERY At the airpot
