Student suggestins might include: A baby bk, which might include written dcumentatin f when they first crawled r an envelpe cntaining a few lcks f hair frm a first haircut. Tell students that the items they have mentined culd be a part f their Prtfli. Sme items shuld be part f a persnal prtfli and ther items shuld be part f a career prtfli. Define the tw types f prtflis fr yur students: A Persnal prtfli is any cllectin f items that cnveys infrmatin abut yu and is stred t be used as a persnal recrd f yur life. A persnal prtfli culd cntain all cmpnents f yur career prtfli and culd als include mre persnal items, such as: Persnal phts Memrabilia Scrapbk items A Career Prtfli is a cllectin f items that demnstrate yur career awareness, yur skills and abilities, and yur achievements. Infrmatin and items culd include the listed examples in the fllwing categries: Academic infrmatin: Wrk samples, transcripts, test scres, diplmas, prgress reprts, etc. Extra-curricular: Sprts, drama, art, clubs, athletics, church grups, yuth grups, and ther rganizatins. Vlunteer: Thank yu letters, letters f recmmendatin, phts, agendas, etc. Achievements: Awards, certificates, licensures, prizes, etc. Other Skills: Phts f art prjects, wdwrking prjects, sculptures, recrdings f musical abilities, etc. What yu put int yur prtfli and hw yu rganize yur prtfli will determine hw useful it will be t yu. Yu will be develping a web-based prtfli using www.cfwv.cm Yu will be able t rganize all f yur persnal and career infrmatin within the www.cfwv.cm Prtfli. Having all yur prtfli items rganized within yur www.cfwv.cm Prtfli will allw yu t track yur gals and accmplishments. This will save yu time as yu begin applying fr pstsecndary schls, schlarships, and jbs. Als imprtant t remember is that yur prtfli shuld grw with yu. It shuld be useful as a surce f infrmatin abut pssible jb cntacts and ptential emplyers. It is exciting t think f all that is ahead fr yu as yu build yur persnal career prtfli, as it can see yu thrugh yur lifelng career stry! That is why we want t wrk t begin building a Lifelng Prtfli. 2

Cre Learning Strategies/Lessn Activities (Typically 30-40 minutes) Activity: Prtfli Activity Wrksheet 1. Tell students that befre we wrk n building ur wn prtfli, we need t be sure we have a gd understanding f what a prtfli is, hw it culd be useful, and what wuld be included in a prtfli. Part I: www.cfwv.cm Prtfli Wrksheet 2. Ask students t lg int www.cfwv.cm and guide their explratin f the Prtfli Tab. 3. Assist students in cmpleting the www.cfwv.cm Prtfli Wrksheet. 4. Explain that all f their materials will eventually be stred in their www.cfwv.cm Prtfli. Part II: Prtfli Activity Wrksheet 5. Read the directins tgether and give time fr students t check three peple frm the list wh they find interesting and wh might benefit frm building a prtfli. 6. Next, have the students fllw the directins in the next sectin. Tell them that they may list mre than five items fr each if they have time. 7. If time, have students get tgether in small grups t discuss their prtfli ideas. (This wuld als prvide time fr peer help fr thse wh have a difficult time cming up with at least five items.) 8. Have students share their prtfli ideas with their classmates. Lead discussin t ensure there are items that wuld be apprpriate fr bth a persnal prtfli and a career prtfli. 9. Have students fllw the directins in the next sectin. Remind them that they shuld nly put X s in frnt f thse that wuld be included in a career prtfli. 10. Have students share as a class the prtfli ideas they nw have marked with an X. (Or, if time, have students share in their small grups.) 11. Have students write answers t the questins at the bttm f the wrksheet t check fr understanding. (If time, have students share their answers with each ther in small grups. Encurage them t each share their answers t all questins. Als, instruct the grups t wrk with their answers t the first questin t cme t cnsensus n a best answer as a grup.) 12. If time, ask fr vlunteers t share what they wuld include in their prtflis. Remind them that, althugh that is nt part f this lessn, this is smething they will either d in a later lessn r shuld think abut ding n their wn. Determine what culd be included in a prtfli Review the bjectives listed abve and review the last three questins at the end f the wrksheet t check fr understanding. If students have nt had a chance t wrk in grups, have them frm grups t discuss their answers. Als discuss in grups what items they have at this time that they nw understand culd be part f an verall persnal prtfli r a persnal career prtfli. (Examples f answers culd be pictures, drawings, a scial security card, a schl identificatin card, etc. Try t think f items that wuld be beynd what have already been discussed.) If they have wrked in grups during the lessn, have the students simply turn t their neighbrs in class t review. Fllw-Up Ask students t ask their parents and guardians abut items they have in their wn persnal prtflis and career prtflis. (Encurage students t tell their parents and guardians abut what they have learned abut prtflis.) Take time in class fr students t share what they learned frm their discussins. Opprtunities fr additinal learning culd include the lessns prvided related t Lifelng Prtfli prject lessns. If the additinal Lifelng Prtfli prject lessns will nt be used, encurage students t visit with their parents/guardians and/r schl cunselr abut building a persnal career prtfli. 4
