Presbytery of Grand Canyon Commission Reports January 26-27, 2018 Annual Meeting Items approved by a commission, which includes our Leadership Team, Commission on Ministry (COM) and Commission on Preparation for Ministry (CPM), were approved in accordance with the responsibilities assigned by our Bylaws and Manual of Operations as well as the Book of Order (G-3.0109 and G-3.0307) and are reported here for the information of the Presbytery. Our commissions have been given the authority to consider and conclude matters referred to them by the Presbytery. Any presbyter may request that an item within the Commission Reports be clarified. Any questions or comments on these actions will be reported back to the respective commission. Items in the Stated Clerk Report are included here for the information of the Presbytery. Leadership Team Report The following is a summary of actions taken on behalf of the Presbytery of Grand Canyon in accordance with the responsibilities granted to the Leadership Team under the Bylaws and/or Manual of Administrative Operations of the Presbytery: Actions taken at the November 1, 2017 meeting Approved requesting a final report from the Theological Affirmation Task Force for review by the Leadership Team at its February 7, 2018 meeting and then presentation to the Presbytery at the March 3, 2018 meeting. Elected RE Jan Palmer to serve as Moderator of the Leadership Team for 2018. Approved the Native American Infrastructure Overture, as prepared and recommended by our Operations Committee and Commissioners to the 2018 GA, for approval by our Presbytery and submission to the 223 rd General Assembly with a call for: 1) an assessment of Native American PC(USA) church property nationwide, and 2) identification of sources of funding for necessary improvements. Approved the proposal of Presbytery Pastor Brad Munroe for making an Advent Devotional booklet written by Brad available for possible use by our churches, with proceeds to be directed to Presbytery mission partners. Rescinded the action taken at the October 4, 2017 meeting of the Leadership Team regarding concurrence actions for Overtures 1 6 received from GA. Actions taken at the December 6, 2017 meeting Elected TE Mike Nieto as Moderator-Elect of the Leadership Team for 2018, then to serve as Moderator of the Leadership Team for 2019. Approved consideration of providing lunch at Presbytery meetings for only those presbyters who RSVP, should that be a feasible system which could be managed by Office Manager Carolyn McBurney. Approved a Presbytery of Grand Canyon grant in the amount of $25,000 as required matching funds for a GA New Worshipping Communities grant to our Evangelical Arabic Church fellowship. Approved the following 2018 Presbytery meeting dates and locations: January 26-27 First Casa Grande March 3 Pinnacle Scottsdale August 25 St. Andrew s Tucson November 3 Chandler Chandler Approved scheduling an opioid addiction workshop led by the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation on Friday, November 2, 2018 as a pre-presbytery meeting event, with approval to use Ignite the Spark funds for the workshop. Authorized Stated Clerk Bob Schulz and Administrative Commission moderator Ed Spence to hire legal counsel, should they think it to be in the Presbytery s interest, regarding a request from Mountain View Presbyterian Church for signed agreement on a document regarding transfer of ownership of the church property. Authorized the funding for restoration of a large Old Testament from Urban Connect, formerly Historic First Presbyterian Church in Phoenix. 2. Commission on Ministry Report Actions taken on behalf of the Presbytery of Grand Canyon in accordance with the responsibilities granted to the Commission on Ministry (COM) under the Bylaws and/or Manual of Administrative Operations of the Presbytery: Actions taken at the October 24, 2017 meeting Lloyd, Linda Approved the transfer of membership of the Rev. Linda Lloyd from the Presbytery of Grand Canyon to Presbytery de Cristo, effective October 22, 2017. Hook, Emily Approved the Pastoral Call of Emily Hook to be Associate Pastor to Desert Palms Presbyterian Church on a part-time basis (25 hrs/wk), effective December 17, 2017, on the following terms: Salary/Housing $32,500 Pension/Medical BOP dues as required Study Allowance 1,000 Vacation Two weeks Study Leave One week Bondora, Mike Approved allowing the Mike Bondora (Church of Christ), Temporary Stated Supply Pastor, to serve as moderator of the Session at First Presbyterian Church in Yuma, effective October 24, 2017.

Peggy Hegeman as Pastor to Yarnell Community Presbyterian Church on Sunday, November 5, 2017, at 2:00 p.m.: José Olagues Jim Kellmann (Yarnell) Ruby McKenzie (Yarnell) Kathryn Owens (Bethany) Kas Page (Yarnell) Jack Ruah (Yarnell) Policy on Establishment of a New Church Approved the following requirements in order for a chapel or new worshipping community to become a church in the Presbytery of Canyon, with the Commission on Ministry to oversee the implementation of these requirements: 1. a summary of the proposal and, in the case of a chapel, supporting comments from the church under which the chapel is governed; 2. a current Roll of Members; 3. a two-year operating budget; 4. Articles of Incorporation; 5. agreement by an existing church to shepherd the new church for a period of five years. Tseyi Bidáá Approved the request of Tseyi Bidáá (formerly Canyon Rim), a chapel of Trinity Chinle, to become a church, pending receipt of a 2018-2019 budget, with approval for CRE Danny Halwood to administer sacraments and seat a Session. Approved celebrating the establishment of Tseyi Bidáá as a church at the November 4, 2017 Presbytery meeting, pending completion of all requirements. First Sun City Approved the Ministry Information Form (MIF) for First Presbyterian Church in Sun City. Policy on Dissolution of Church Pastoral Calls Approved Chapter X - Dissolution of Church Pastoral Calls for the COM Handbook. Actions taken at the November 28, 2017 meeting Hart, Floyd Approved the transfer of membership of the Rev. Floyd Hart, at his request, from the Presbytery of Grand Canyon to the Presbytery of Dakota, effective November 21, 2017. Freitas, Eneyas Approved the transfer of membership of the Rev. Eneyas Freitas, at his request, from the Presbytery of Grand Canyon to the Presbytery of Tampa Bay, effective February 4, 2017. Woodruff, Kelsey Approved the transfer of membership of the Rev. Kelsey Woodruff, at her request, from the Presbytery of Grand Canyon to the Presbytery of Boston, effective September 30, 2017.

Emily Hook as Associate Pastor to Desert Palms Presbyterian Church: David Hodgson Eric Ledermann Kimberly Murman Election of Moderator Elected RE Bob Aldag as COM Moderator for 2018. Commission on Preparation for Ministry Report Actions taken on behalf of the Presbytery of Grand Canyon in accordance with the responsibilities granted to the Commission on Preparation for Ministry (CPM) under the Bylaws and/or Manual of Administrative Operations of the Presbytery: Actions taken at the November 21, 2017 meeting Confirmed Ruling Elder Jane Linville (Desert Palms) as prepared to be commissioned by our Presbytery as a Commissioned Ruling Elder (CRE) and to refer Jane to the Commission on Ministry for their consideration, effective upon her completion of the required Presbytery background check. Elected TE Mike Japenga to serve as Moderator and elected RE Jim Hershauer to serve as Moderator- Elect of CPM for 2018, with those terms beginning in February 2018. Actions taken at the December 12,2017 meeting Approved recommending to the Presbytery that Inquirer Christopher Woodard of Valley Presbyterian Church be moved to Candidate for the office of Teaching Elder. Approved recommending to COM that Chris Woodard be added to the Presbytery s Pulpit Supply List. Approved sending Candidate Ben Crelin, currently in seminary, a gift of $500 from the Presbytery.

Margaret Hegeman November 5, 2017 The Administrative Commission to Install the Rev. Peggy Hegeman met at Yarnell Community Presbyterian Church on Sunday, November 5, at 2:00 p.m. and did install Rev. Hegeman, following the guidelines set forth in the Directory for Worship (W-4.4).
