Searching and Correcting Errant Phone Numbers in Blackboard Connect 5 With over 1 million telephone numbers stored in the Blackboard Connect system, there is the potential for a school to call a number not associated with a student or employee of the District. When this situation occurs, please follow the below steps to correct the errant telephone number. The only information we know for certain is that the school or District office is calling a telephone number of a person who does not have any children in a LAUSD school or is not an employee of the District. As such, start by searching for telephone numbers in Blackboard Connect. Log into the Blackboard Connect system (www.blackboardconnect.com) and enter your user name and password. This is not your Single Sign-On user name and password. Click on the Recipients menu heading. In the first Search field, use the drop down menu and change it to Phone.
Enter the telephone number without spaces, parentheses or dashes. Click on the Search button. If the phone number matches a number in the Blackboard Connect system, the results will appear on the screen below the search area. Click on the pencil icon to the right of the name. This will display the detailed information about the student. Note the Reference Code (Student ID). TIP: Highlight and copy the Reference Code. Log out of the Blackboard Connect system. ***************************************** Log into MiSiS (https://misis.lausd.net/start/login.aspx) using your Single Sign-On user name and password. Paste the Reference Code (Student ID) in the Search Students field and click on the magnifying glass (or press the Enter key). When the student s name appears, confirm it is the same as the name that was found in Blackboard Connect. Click on the name of the student. When the detailed information appears, scroll to Parent/Guardian Info under the Enrollment menu heading. The name(s) of the parents/guardians will display. Click on the pencil next to the parent/guardian name to display the detailed information. Under the Contact Information section, review the phone numbers and message classifications. One number must appear in the Phone #1 field in order to save changes. TIP-If a correct number is not immediately known, enter (999) 999-9999 for the phone number. This will allow the changes to be saved. It is important that a valid phone number be entered as the school will not be calling this parent/guardian until it is entered. Please reference the Student Emergency Information form to obtain updated telephone contact information or contact the parent directly to obtain a valid phone number. It is recommended that a general notification, attendance notification and emergency notification number be entered even if the number is the same. This will help the system know how to contact the parent/guardian. TIP-While editing this screen, review to make sure the following fields are competed. Relationship Home Correspondence Language Mailing Address Click on Save. Repeat the same process for any additional parents/guardians listed. Changes made before 6PM will be sent to Blackboard Connect overnight and updated the next day. TIP-Do not make changes directly in Blackboard Connect as these changes will be overwritten when the nightly MiSiS file is sent to Blackboard Connect.
