How to Log In/Out 1. Go to the URL: http://www.nsi.tafensw.edu.au in your web browser. 2. Click on the Students menu then select elearning Gateway from the drop down menu. 3. On the elearning Gateway page, click on the Sakai logo. Created: 20/03/2009 Page 2 of 11
4. Sakai will open in a new window. Enter your DET/E-Services Username (for example michael.j.tan) and password. This is the same username and password that you use to access the DET Portal and E-Services. The Collaborative Learning Environment (CLE) will display your My Workspace home page. To log out, click the Logout link in the top right corner of the screen. [Don t worry if the screen flickers.] Need help with your username and password details? Contact your course facilitator details are located on My Sites tab > Projects > Course Home Page. The course facilitator will be able to sort out any problems for you including resetting forgotten user account passwords. Created: 20/03/2009 Page 3 of 11
How to Access my Course 1. Click the My Sites tab near the top of the screen. A list of the course sites you belong to will be displayed. 2. Click the link for the unit you are enrolled in. Your course home page will be displayed under Projects with information about your course, getting started, assessments, readiness for e-learning and computer requirements. How to Access Course Content Once you are in your course s home page, you can access your course content using the navigation panel on the left. The main course content can be accessed via the Learning Program link under the LEARNING TOOLS section. INFORMATION The Course Outline link will take you to an overview of the course units and modules, including Student Assessment Guides and Learning Elements and Performance Criteria. LEARNING TOOLS The Learning Program link will take you to the course table of contents, where all the module content and assessment tasks are listed. To get started, click on a Module (see next page). You can work through the course using the NEXT and PREV buttons. ASSESSMENT Using this set of tools you can keep track of all your assignments as well as results and feedback. COMMUNICATION Click on the Chat Room link to join in chat with your fellow students, or to view previous chat sessions. Click on the Discussion Board link to join in discussions that your teacher has set up. For example questions about the course; Class discussions; or a Student Lounge. About the Learning Program The Learning Program section of your course will display all the course content so you can work through sections of the unit of study. The Learning Program contains both the course Learning Materials and the Assessment tasks that you will need to complete. Site Navigation How to get around To return to My Workspace Home page from another site, click the My Workspace tab near the top of the screen. To return to the home page for the course site you are currently working in; click the Home link in the tools list on the left. To return to the home page for the tool you are currently working in, click in the location breadcrumbs to the left of the tool name. Created: 20/03/2009 Page 8 of 11
About My Workspace My Workspace is your private site in the Sakai Collaborative Learning Environment (CLE). Here you can check your personal calendar, view class announcements, store materials for your private use, and work on personal projects. The tools you can use are listed on the left side of the screen. Resources Click on the Resources link and follow the setup instructions. Once you re set up, you'll be able to do things like copy, paste, drag, and drop files between your computer and your course site. RSS Feeds To add an RSS feed to your Workspace, click the RSS Feeds link, then the Options link, and fill in the RSS feed s title and URL. Web Links To display a web page in your Workspace, click the Web Links link, then the Options link, and fill in the web page s title and URL. How to find my Email Address You will need to know your TAFE email address in order to receive email announcements and assessment results from your teacher. 1. Go to the DET portal at http://portal.det.nsw.edu.au/ 2. Enter your DET User ID (e.g. jane.citizen) 3. Enter your password 4. Click Log In. 5. Click the Accept button on the acceptable usage policy page. 6. The DET TAFE Student Portal will be displayed. Created: 20/03/2009 Page 10 of 11
To find your DET email address, click on the My profile tab, then click on the View/Update My Personal Attributes link.
