Schools of the Dialogue of Cultures Pakistan The major challenge facing education in the 21st century is dealing with some of the inherent tensions that arise in reconciling competing world views with each other. In 2012, WPF Dialogue of Civilizations started developing the Schools of the Dialogue of Cultures international educational project. UNESCO s Philosophy Department, Philosophy in the Dialogue of Cultures, is a project partner. This project is being implemented on platforms at several non-governmental educational institutions. UNESCO Guidance of Intercultural Education 2006 clarifies its Objectives as: Learning to know through general education Learning to do to find a place in society. Learning to live together with spirit of solidarity Learning to be by strengthening a sense of identity. Institute of Philosophy Russian Academy of Sciences The Schools of the Dialogue of Cultures project developed by the WPF Dialogue of Civilizations is set to expand and enhance its engagement. The DOC Research Institute will support the projects and its expansion both geographically and generationally, and is looking for partners to realize this important project. 2

Goals and Objectives As the project was created with an international scope, we hope to make the Global Network of School of Intercultural Dialogue" a reality for students in more countries. Specifically, it is planned to build this network along with the routes and policies of the macro project of One Belt One Road (New Silk Road). The skills needed to engage in a respectful dialogue need to be taught and learnt. Multicultural education is one of the most important tools in making the transition from abstract and often simply demagogic declarations to practical implementations. The Schools of the Dialogue of Cultures program not only aims to create a favorable climate for the continued coexistence of different cultures, but also seeks to ensure the benefits of that diversity are shared. 3

Project Implementation Since 2012, the project has been successfully developing in Russia for 9 th -10 th grade students with help of resources as the Syllabus, Teachers Book and Text Book designed and distributed. Since 2014 the complex program of the Polycultural education based on concept of the Schools of Dialogue of Cultures by Dialogue of Civilizations has been successfully implemented in private educational system of the «Russian Railways» and includes the network of 10 schools and 5 kindergartens with research and experimental activities.

Project elements The era of globalization calls for adjustment in the field of education that meets the demands of the times. Education can no longer be limited exclusively to national culture. The Global Network of Schools of the Dialogue of Cultures can be composed of the Asia Pacific Area, North America, Europe, Australia, etc. The project will include: High quality research on intercultural education Training programs for the teachers Educational policy at levels of UNESCO, regional, and national Ministry of Education with concrete theoretical and practical guidance on intercultural education; Textbooks for classic readings on different civilizations, for example Chinese Classics, Western Classics, Islamic Classics, etc. Curriculum to make it contextually appropriate for different regions and countries, including curriculum on classics reading ; Student Exchange Program; Student Educational Program for disadvantaged students such as immigrants and students in poverty; Dialogue of Cultures Curriculum program for higher secondary schools (RUS/ENG) Dialogue of Cultures Textbook for higher secondary schools (RUS/ENG) Translation and publication of the text book in different languages for students from different language backgrounds; Conferences and workshops to introduce the project at regional, national and international levels; Inter-cultural project centers that cover the major parts of the world 5
