Aspley State High School Uniform Expectations Parent Guide
Uniform Aspley High School is proud to be a uniform school. Our community believes that in a professional learning environment, personal grooming, dress and general appearance should reflect the highest community standard. Students are required to wear the full school uniform to and from school, every day. Here at Aspley our students wear their uniform with pride. A strong uniform policy is a factor in the creation of an orderly, disciplined learning environment. We are deliberately a uniform school. This decision is based on the daily evidence we have that being clear and precise with young people about dress standards assists to create an effective learning environment. A uniform does this by: Providing a sense of identity and recognisability a practical safety strategy Disguises difference. Families are not under pressure to keep up with the latest, expensive fashion trends in clothing, hair styles and footwear. Each day young people have an age appropriate, work place safe, uniform to wear Builds a sense of community and belonging minimises the divisions based on social groupings adolescents can experience when having to choose their clothing Upholding community standards on dress standards and personal grooming prepares young people to be ready to participate in the broader community. Roles and Responsibilities Our school is responsible for being clear on uniform standards and expectations. We must also maintain the high expectations of our community by expecting and checking compliance with the uniform policy. It is also our responsibility to deal with non-compliance. It is a family or care givers responsibility to provide the student with the full and appropriate uniform. Families play a key role in maintaining high standards by expecting young people to wear the uniform to and from school. Working with the school in expecting and checking helps to guide our students to comply with our shared high standards for dress and appearance. It is a student responsibility to present well, wear the uniform with pride and comply with community standards on our uniform policy.
