Participants attending will learn the key components for an effective training program for paraprofessionals which can then be delivered as a staff development framework that fits the schedule according to each school s or district s unique scheduling and training needs. Featuring Two of the Nation s Top Experts in Working with Students with Special Needs Janet Hull is an exciting presenter with more than 31 years of experience in special education and has been nationally recognized for her work with paraprofessionals. She has taught in high school, middle school and elementary settings and has worked with students with cognitive, behavioral, communication, and autism spectrum disorders. Her vast experience includes working in rural, suburban, urban, and highly diverse schools and school systems. In addition, Janet has been an adjunct professor for many years teaching paraeducators and teachers at the university level. She incorporates her experience and deep respect for the work of paraeducators into her seminars with an exciting and engaging manner that responds to the current and future needs of paraeducators. She addresses the unique strengths of paraeducators in ways that validate their critical roles in the classroom and enhance their effectiveness in building student independence. Susan Fitzell is a dynamic presenter who is passionate about helping teaching professionals make co-teaching and inclusion work successfully in the classroom. With more than 21 years of experience in special education, inclusion and co-teaching, Susan is in demand as a presenter at district, state and national conferences. She fully understands the challenges inherent in an inclusive school and adds her own sensitive and insightful understanding of the issues of co-teaching and inclusion. Susan is the author of several books geared to help educators and parents help youth, which include: Special Needs in the General Classroom: Strategies that Make it Work (2008), a comprehensive resource handbook for teachers, and Paraprofessionals and Teachers Working Together: Highly Effective Strategies for Inclusive Classrooms (2007). Special Benefits of Attending State Specific Credit: Participants in this three day institute are eligible for 1.5 CEUs or 15 Clock Hours in most states. In some states, participants may be required to initial in/out on a program roster for each day, complete forms, pay a fee, or complete a program evaluation. At the end of day three, each attendee will receive a certificate of participation that may be used to verify hours to meet continuing education requirements. Earn One to Four Graduate Semester Credits Up to four graduate level professional development credits are available with an additional fee and completion of a follow up practicum activities.
