1. Each Schoo is headed by a Director, who arranges to pan, supervise, deveop and organise its academic programmes and courses in coordination with the Schoo staff and different academic, administrative and service wings of the University. Most of these programmes have been deveoped after an initia survey of the demand for such programmes. They are aunched with a view to fufi the earners needs for: certification, improvement of skis, 4

acquisition of professiona quaifications, continuing education and professiona deveopment at work pace, sef-enrichment, diversification and updation of knowedge, and empowerment. 1.6 Course Preparation Learning materia is speciay prepared by experts drawn from different universities and speciaised institutes in the area spread throughout the country, as we as in-house facuty. This materia is scrutinised by the content experts, supervised by instructors/unit designers and edited by anguage experts at IGNOU, before it is finay sent for printing. Simiary, audio and video cassettes are produced in consutation with the course writers, in-house facuty and producers. The materia is previewed and reviewed by the facuty as we as outside experts, and edited/ modified, wherever necessary, before they are finay dispatched to the students and study centres and teecast through Gyan Darshan. 1.7 Credit System The University foows the Credit System for most of its programmes. Each credit in our system is equivaent to 30 hours of student study, comprising a the earning activities (i.e. reading and comprehending the print materia, istening to audio, watching video, attending counseing sessions, teeconference and writing assignment responses). Thus, a 4-credit course invoves 120 hours of study. This heps the earner know the academic effort he/she has to put in to successfuy compete a course. Competion of an academic programme (degree or dipoma) requires successfu competion of the assignments, practica projects and the term-end examination of each course in a programme. 1.8 Programme Deivery BA IHA programme is deivered through Programme Centres approved by IGNOU. 1.9 Evauation System The system of evauation for this programme incudes: 1. Continuous evauation, mainy through assignments, which are tutor-marked; 2. The term-end examinations; 3. Project work; and 4. Internship. The evauation of earners depends upon various instructiona activities undertaken by them. A earner has to write assignment responses compusoriy before taking the term-end examination to compete the programme. A earner has to submit tutor-marked assignments (TMA) to the coordinator of the Programme Centre concerned, to which s/he is attached. A earner shoud keep dupicate copies of assignment responses of TMA that may be required to be produced at the Student Evauation Division (SED) on demand. Term-end examination is conducted at various examination centres spread a over the country in Apri and October. 1.9.1 Term-end Examination and Payment of Examination Fee The University conducts term-end examinations twice a year in the months of Apri and October. Students are permitted to appear in term-end examination subject to the conditions that registration for the courses, in which they wish to appear, is vaid, the minimum time to pursue these courses have not apsed and they have aso submitted the required number of assignment(s), if any, in those courses by the due date. Examination fee @Rs.50/- per course is required to be paid either through cash or through demand drafts. 2. AN INTRODUCTION TO AMERICAN HOTEL & LODGING EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE (AH&LEI) American Hote & Lodging Association, founded in 1910, has about 15,000 member properties wordwide, representing more than 2 miion guest rooms. The Educationa Institute, estabished in 1953, is among the premier sources for deivering quaity Hospitaity education, training and professiona certification that serves the needs of the hospitaity schoos and industries wordwide. 3. B.A. INTERNATIONAL HOSPITALITY ADMINISTRATION 3.1 Hospitaity Administration This innovative programme from IGNOU, incorporating courses of AH&LEI, is a first-of-its-kind offerings in the earning system. It combines the strength of both IGNOU and AH&LEI in providing suitabe educationa programmes for socioeconomic benefit. It incorporates the fexibiity of distance and continuing education with conventiona earning system and provides for 5

Face-to-Face fu-time interaction through its Programme Centres, for both theory and practica. Internship (industria exposure training) is an integra part of the programme. Career opportunities abound for we-trained young men and women in star hotes, resorts, motes, cubs, hospitas, factories, oi rigs, raiways, cruise ines, shipping, airines, tourism, bakeries, food stying, Centra & State Government, schoos (for teaching), fast-food outets, outdoor catering, food product companies and retai chains, etc. 3.3 Aims and Objectives The course is designed to ensure that students who pass out are fuy empoyabe in the hospitaity industry. The casses at the Programme Centres are, therefore, mandatory for acquiring hands on training and ski deveopment required by a hospitaity administration professiona. 3.4 Medium of Instruction The medium of instructions for this programme is Engish. 3.5 Programme Duration The minimum duration for this programme is three years. However, a maximum duration of six years is permissibe to compete the programme. 4. ELIGIBILITY 4.1 Educationa Quaification Pass in 10+2 examination from a recognised board/ university or its equivaent quaification with Engish as one of the compusory subjects. 4.2 Physica Fitness A quaified candidates wi have to submit a physica fitness certificate from a registered medica practitioner in the prescribed format given in this Prospectus (Annexure-I) at the time of submission of admission form. 4.3 Reservation for Schedued Caste/ Schedued Tribe/ PH/ OBC/ War Widow/ Kashmiri Migrant Candidates The reservation of seats for candidates beonging to Schedued Caste, Schedued Tribe and physicay Handicapped Categories wi be 15 per cent, 7.5 per cent and 3 per cent, respectivey. Five per cent seats are reserved for War Widows and one seat in each Programme Centre is reserved for Kashmiri Migrants. Reservation for OBC category wi aso be impemented as appicabe under Government directions. Reservation, in respect of persons beonging to the sociayand educationay-backward casses (OBCs), sha be foowed as per the O.M. No. 1-1/2005-U.I. A/847, dated Apri 20, 2008, issued by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Deveopment, Government of India. 4.4 Document required in support of caim for reservation under SC, ST and OBC categories At the time of submission of appication, Schedued Caste, Schedued Tribe and OBC candidates wi be required to necessariy attach the attested copy of caste/tribe/obc certificate issued by District Magistrate/Additiona District Magistrate/Coector/Deputy Commissioner/Additiona Deputy Commissioner/Deputy Coector/1st Cass Magistrate/Sub-Divisiona Magistrate/Revenue Officer not beow the rank of Tehsidar/Sub-divisiona Officer of the area where the candidate and/or his/her famiy normay resides. FEE STRUCTURE 5.1 Prospectus with Appication Fee Prospectus with Appication can be obtained from Registrar (SRE), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Dehi-110068 or Programme Centres at a cost of Rs 350/- by post or Rs 250/- in person or downoaded from the IGNOU website www.ignou.ac.in. Downoaded appications shoud accompany a draft for Rs. 250 in favour of IGNOU payabe at New Dehi. 5.2 Programme Fee The programme fee is fixed at a maximum of Rs. 3,00,000 for the entire three-year period, not exceeding Rs.1,00,000 per year. The fees to be paid to the Programme Centres may vary from one institute to another. Candidates are strongy recommended to make enquires regarding fees, etc. we in advance before exercising choice for the Programme Centres, whie fiing up the appication form. Once the candidate is seected and admission offer is sent; the student has to pay the first term fee within the stipuated time. If the programme fee is not paid within the stipuated time, offer of admission sha be given to the next candidate in the merit ist and no caim wi be entertained. Merit- and need-based schoarships may be offered by the Programme Centres. Detais may pease be obtained directy from the Programme Centres. The fees are subject to revision from time to time. 5.3 Refund of fees Admission fee is not refundabe under any circumstances. In the event of any information furnished by a candidate being found incorrect or miseading, the candidature of such candidate sha be iabe to canceation by the University at any time and the candidate sha not be entited to refund of any fee paid by the candidate to the University/AH&LEI/ Programme Centre. Note: 1. Examination Fee: For IGNOU component of BA-IHA, a student sha pay Rs. 50 per course to appear in each examination. 2. UNIFORM Uniform is intrinsic to the discipine of the hote industry. A the students admitted to BA (IHA) Programme wi have to wear the prescribed uniform. Students are expected to dress up decenty. 7. COMMENCEMENT OF ACADEMIC SESSION Academic Session 2011-2012 wi commence on August 16, 2011, at a the approved Programme Centres. 8. TRAINING Competion of industria exposure training (5 ½ months 22 weeks) is a pre-requisite for a student to be promoted to the next academic term. Students have to compete the training at the same pace where they are deputed. No part training wi be considered. 9. TEACHING AND EXAMINATION SCHEME FOR BA-IHA PROGRAMME There wi be continuous examinations during the academic year and one annua term-end examination, conducted at the end of each year. Cass tests, practicas and assignments are part of the continuous evauation system. Competion of these are pre-requisite for termina examination. The marks of the same wi be added to the Fina Test. 8

14. UNIVERSITY RULES The University reserves the right to change the rues from time to time. However, atest rues wi be appicabe to a the students irrespective of the year of registration. 14.1 Educationa Quaifications Awarded By Private Institutions Any educationa quaification awarded by the Private Universities estabished under the provisions of the Chhattisgarh Niji Kshetra Vishwavidyaaya (Sathapane Aur Viniyaman), Adhiniyam, 2002 are non-existent and cannot be made the basis of admission to higher studies with IGNOU. 14.2 Incompete and Late Appications Incompete appication forms/re-registration forms, received after due date or having wrong options of courses or eectives or fase information, wi be summariy rejected without any intimation to the earners. The earners are, therefore, advised to fi the reevant coumns carefuy and encose the copies of a the required certificates duy attested by a Gazetted Officer. The form is to be submitted to the coordinator of the concerned Programme Centre on, or before, the due date. The appication form, sent to other offices of the University, wi not be considered and the appicant wi have no caim whatsoever on account of this. 14.3 Vaidity of Admission Learners offered admission have to join on, or before, the due dates specified by the University. In case they want to seek admission for the next session, they have to appy afresh and go through the admission process again. 14.4 Schedues A schedues viz. the submission of examination form, assignments and dates for examinations wi remain as notified by the University from time to time. 14.5 Simutaneous Registration Students, who are aready enroed in a programme of one year or onger duration, can aso simutaneousy register themseves for any Certificate Programme of six-month duration. However, if there is any cash of dates of counseing or examination schedue between the two programmes taken, the University wi not be in a position to make adjustment. 14.6 Re-Registration Learners are advised to submit the re-registration forms ony to the respective Programme Centre and nowhere ese. If any student sends the registration/re-registration forms at wrong paces and thereby misses the schedued date and consequenty a semester/year, he/she wi have no caim on the University for reguarisation. 14.7 Schedue for Re-Registration (for 2nd year and 3rd year): Juy Session: 1st March to 30th Apri: without ate fee 1st May to 31st May: with ate fee of Rs 200* 1st June to 30th June: with ate fee of Rs.500* 14.8 Reservation The University provides reservation of seats for Schedued Castes, Schedued Tribes, Other Backward Casses (OBCs), War Widows, Kashmiri Migrants and Physicay- Handicapped Learners, as per the Government of India rues. 14.9 Schoarships and Reimbursement of Fee The earners beonging to reserved categories, viz. Schedued Castes, Schedued Tribes and Physicay- Handicapped, have to pay the fu fee at the time of admission to the University, aong with other Genera Category candidates. SC/ST earners have to coect and subsequenty submit their schoarship forms to the respective State s Directorate of Socia Wefare or Office of the Socia Wefare Officer, through the concerned Regiona Director of IGNOU for reimbursement of Programme Fee. Simiary, Physicay-Handicapped Learners admitted to IGNOU Programmes are eigibe for Government of India schoarships. They are advised to coect schoarship forms from the respective State Government s Directorate of Socia Wefare or Office of the Socia Wefare Officer and submit the fied-in forms to them through the concerned Regiona Director of IGNOU. Schoarship scheme of Nationa Centre for Promotion of Empoyment of Disabed Peope (NCPEDP) for Post-Graduate eve programmes is appicabe to the students of this University aso. Such students are advised to appy to awarding authority. 14.10 Study Materia and Assignments The University sends study materias and assignments wherever prescribed to the students through Programme Centres and if a student does not receive the same for any reason whatsoever, the University sha not be hed responsibe for that. Admission of foreign students residing in India wi be processed by the Internationa Division of the University after ensuring their antecedents from the Ministry of Externa Affairs/Ministry of Human Resource Deveopment.
