Southfield Sixth Form Celebrating 100 years of continued success...

Welcome from the head of sixth form: Welcome to Southfield School Sixth Form. Our aim is to offer students who have high aspirations an outstanding learning experience which will help them achieve their goals and enable them to develop as people. The vast majority of our sixth formers are aiming for university entry and Southfield Sixth Form offers a co-educational environment in preparation for this. Many students remain at Southfield after year 11, and many also join us due to our academic reputation and wide range of enhancement activities. Ofsted described us as offering an outstanding level of care, guidance and support during our last inspection, but don t just take their word for it: come and visit us at our Sixth Form Open Evening. We are also open throughout the year for visits, so please contact our registrar Mrs June Nichols for further information. We feel that it is really important that students make plans for their future and take some time out of their busy GCSE schedule to consider life after year 11. As Southfield School has demonstrated through continued growth in student numbers and exam attainment, students can feel reassured that they have the opportunity to join a school that is building on its success.

Celebrating 100 years of continued success... Hannah Fearnley Head of Sixth Form Opting for Southfield will give you a unique educational experience, providing you with every opportunity to go out into the world fully equipped to meet the demands and challenges of your future.

Celebrating 100 years of continued success... Georgie Crotty School Head Girl The sixth form offers a diverse learning environment and one that I believe is unique to this school. It teaches not only what can be learnt in the classroom but valuable life and social skills that can be applied anywhere.

Southfield offers challenge to its students by: l building on their previous learning l developing their intellectual capacity to the full l providing a stimulating learning environment l encouraging students to aim high and maximise their achievements l equipping students with a range of skills for life, work and future study l stimulating a love of learning Southfield has a commitment to; l providing a broad and balanced curriculum l supporting the personal and intellectual development of every student l contributing to the good of the wider community l building good relationships with and among students l providing a safe environment l promoting mutual respect throughout the school community Southfield offers students a wide choice of opportunities: l providing an extensive curriculum to meet the needs of all l providing access to a broad range of extra-curricular activities l providing experienced guidance to support students in making their choices at every stage l enabling students to make positive choices and exert control over their present and future lives Please see the Southfield website for the admissions criteria.

A history of success We have a proven history of challenging our students at Southfield Sixth Form. Our pass rates have steadily increased year on year and our Sixth Form has doubled its numbers in the past three years. This year, every student who chose to go to university achieved a place. 82% achieved their first choice university. 3 students gained places at Cambridge. Many more students could also have gone to Oxbridge with the grades they achieved. 22% of Southfield students went to Russell Group universities. A staggering 4 students achieved unconditional offers: The university liked the calibre of student so much that they would have taken them no matter what they achieved for their A levels! Needless to say, all these students still passed with flying colours.

Celebrating 100 years of continued success... Tamsen Zeigler Current Sixth Form Student I decided to come to Southfield as I had heard positive things about the sixth form. There are many fantastic opportunities offered and available to students. Taking on Young Enterprise inspired me to push myself and allowed me to learn new skills which have confirmed my career choice in business

A culture of achievement As a Sixth Form we are committed to student progress and we feel that Southfield is unique in all that it offers its students. We recognise that achievement and success do not come without support and we have a dedicated programme in place to assist the transition from school to university. This also enables our sixth formers to grow as people. We encompass achievement in its broadest sense and have a thriving Football Academy, Libero, and the Southfield Dance Academy at our school. Teaching staff already know or get to know students very quickly as individuals, and students feel that their teachers are approachable. All our year 12 attend a university/ careers fair. We take students to attend mock university interviews. We also support students in applying overseas, such as through the Fulbright Commission for American Universities. Students who want to apply for an apprenticeship have special events throughout the year. All year 12 are encouraged in their personal, social and health development through small group tutorials. Volunteering is actively encouraged, either in or out of school. We regularly monitor and evaluate student progress throughout the year. We offer a robust system of support early on in year 12 which is offered to students who are struggling. We have dedicated literacy and maths drop-ins once a week too, and all students can have a personalised interview with a member of Connexions.

Celebrating 100 years of continued success... Dom Jolley Current Sixth Form Student I came to Southfield as I needed a change of direction. The support and focus I have received really lives up to the school s reputation. I have enjoyed my time here and look forward to achieving the grades I have been forecast which will enable me to study history at university.

Inese Cirtautaite Current Sixth Form Student I joined Southfield s Sixth Form this year because of its good local reputation. Being a part of the Southfield community is proving to be an amazing experience. I believe Southfield will help me to reach my full potential and achieve my best possible results. Celebrating 100 years of continued success...

A world of opportunity Southfield students benefit from a wide choice of enhancement opportunities that not only strengthen their university applications but help them develop as individuals. Our students frequently achieve phenomenal success in Young Enterprise, regularly winning their way to the area and regional finals. We also have a strong tradition of students volunteering overseas, gaining valuable life and interpersonal skills. Sixth Formers can also take part in a wide variety of other educational trips, such as to Cern, to the theatre, to Auschwitz and Barcelona. We have a thriving School Council and students are so proficient in these roles that they win local and national awards. All year 12 students become Buddies, mentors for new year 7s. Students can also opt to study for the European Computer Driving Licence and this scheme is free to all year 12 and 13. Or, they may be interested in the Higher Sports Leadership Award, developing leadership qualities which can apply to any area of work or study. We have numerous clubs and many Sixth Formers start their own clubs. Southfield Sixth Formers are held in high regard by the rest of the school and lead the way with standards and courtesy. All our students have a smart dress code, perfectly balanced to be respectful as a member of a school community and to prepare for university entry.

Success Stories Many Southfield Sixth Formers have gone on to take advantage of the world of opportunity, and here are just a few success stories Anna Lacey studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge. She now works as a freelance TV and radio science broadcaster. Paige Mason was last year s Head Girl and succeeded in gaining a place in Emmanuel College Cambridge to study Law. Jenny Ashworth studied Natural Sciences specializing in Materials Science and is currently studying for a PhD in the Cambridge Centre for Medical Materials. Tom Martin moved to The URDANG Academy which specialises in dance and drama. Rachel Bull left Southfield to study Music at the Leeds College Music Conservatoire and has since moved into Journalism in London. Victoria Leyshon went onto Loughborough University to study Quantity Surveying and Project Management and is now working on the latest road widening project on the M1.

Craig Wood Current Sixth Form Student Celebrating 100 years of continued success... I came to Southfield primarily because I was selected to be a part of the football academy; however, I am really pleased with the academic side of my day and, although it makes for a busy time, I know I will be able to reach my full potential.

Celebrating 100 years of continued success... Lydia Knight Current Sixth Form Student I didn t give any thought to possibly moving on to another sixth form. The teachers here supported us all to achieve the grades required. I love being a part of the Southfield Community particularly in the sixth form.

Choose a better future At Southfield we firmly believe that students are able to choose a better future with us. We work in a consortium partnership with two other local successful schools: Latimer and Montsaye. In this way, we can offer our students the choice of various A level or level 3 courses, an offer that is unique in this area. Students are guided to choose subjects that not only go with their own strengths but also interest them too.
