SPANISH CLASSES AND EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: Culture, Leisure and Sports June-July Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Depart NYC 29 30 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 Cultural and Language IMMERSION PROGRAM SPANISH CAMP IN SPAIN Saturday, June 28 th : Flight from New York to Sevilla, Spain Sunday, June 29 th : Arrive in Cádiz Monday, June 30 th : First day of Spanish Camp Friday, July 11 th : Last day of Spanish program and closing ceremony Saturday, July 12 th : Flight from Sevilla, Spain to New York Day 1 A private bus will be waiting for the group at the airport. From there we will go to Cádiz where host families and a K2 INTERNACIONAL group coordinator will welcome us. Welcome / Bienvenidos Students will meet their host families and go home to rest, have lunch or dinner, take a shower and get to know where they will be living for the next two weeks. Liz will visit each host family and check in daily with each student. It is easy to contact Liz or K2 International any time of day or night. The host families have been working with K2 International for 10+ years. Day 2 at K2 International On the first day of morning classes, host families take students to K2 International School. Classes start at 9:30am. Liz will be there to check in with students. Students will be divided into groups according to their Spanish level. After classes and a snack at the school, students will go to their host families to have a home cooked lunch. The families will pick up students from school on the first day. They will continue to pick up those students who don t feel confident walking. In Spain lunch is Afternoon: Visit to Tavira Tower and guided city tour Students will have the opportunity to discover more of the city. We will walk through the narrow cobbled stone streets, cozy squares and see some of the most important monuments, such as Plaza de Las Flores (the flower sellers square) and the oldest neighborhood: El Barrio del Pópulo. To make the beginning of the camp even more eye opening, we will go up to the Tavira Tower (the watching tower with a camera obscura system) and see the city in a unique way.
Day 3 Classes start at 9:30. Students start learning more Spanish in a comfortable setting. Lessons are taught in the target language and everyday students are able to use their Spanish outside of the classroom! After classes and a snack at the school, students will go to their host families to have a home cooked lunch. The families will pick up students from school on the first day. They will continue to pick up those students who don t feel confident walking. In Spain lunch is Gogi Abroad Group Time at the Beach When you are in Cádiz, you have to take the advantage of the amazing weather and the beaches. Students will have a free afternoon together and to go to the beach with their teachers and friends. While at the beach K2 has: soccer, rugby and volleyball, etc. Dinner host family After all the activities of the day, students return to host families to have dinner and spend some time with their families. Liz will plan to meet with the students after dinner to check in and enjoy the nightlife in the plazas. Students will be walked home by Liz or K2 International teachers. Day 4. Afternoon activity: Surfing With over 6 miles of beaches, Cádiz offers students a great opportunity to practice all kinds of water sports and improve their Spanish with hands on experience. Surf Classes will go over: Theory Basic techniques Paddling in the right position Taking the right position on the wave Catching the wave How to stand up on the board and surf! Day 5
lunch, students can take a siesta (nap) and relax before we head out for the afternoon activities. Afternoon Activity: Treasure Hunt in Cadiz Students will have to follow clues to complete a fun and educational treasure hunt in the city. They will have the opportunity to talk to locals, see the Tourism office, buy things, make a phone call, etc. all in Spanish! This is a time when students socialize and laugh with their friends and other international students at K2 International School. Day 6 Afternoon Activity: Gogi Abroad Group Activity at the famous Beaches of Cadiz. Another time to relax on the beach and soak up more culture together! Day 7 Day trip to Vejer de la Frontera and the Roman Ruins of Bolonia A day trip to one of the most beautiful white villages of the area: Vejer de la Frontera! We will also visit the Roman Ruins Baelo-Claudia which are right on the beautiful beach of Bolonia. We will depart at 9:30 from Cádiz towards Bolonia, where we will visit the Archaeological site of Baelo Claudia. After the Roman ruins, we will enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach with views of Morocco across the sea.
Day 8 Cultural Day in Cadiz with Liz We will discover music, dance, food, cinema, etc. Students will have the opportunity to reflect about their experience as a group. We will do some journaling and take time to address any needs and wants before the end of the camp. Day 9 as the eat lunch and enjoy the delicious Spanish meals. In Spain lunch is lunch, students can take a siesta (nap) and relax before we head Boat trip and sunset at a famous beach spot 7:00-9:30pm Boat trip to see Cadiz and its old city walls from the sea. We will end the trip stopping by La Caleta beach to enjoy watching the sun set between two old forts. Day 10 Students will continue to use their Spanish and begin to understand more as the eat lunch and enjoy the delicious Spanish meals. In Spain lunch is the most important meal of the day. The food is amazing! After lunch, students can take a siesta (nap) and relax before we head
Gogi Abroad Group Activity at the famous Beaches of Cadiz. Another time to relax on the beach and soak up more culture together! Day 11 Group Sea Kayaking In the afternoon we will learn how to sea kayak. This is a good activity for young students to learn how to work as a team. Day 12 Group Activity, explore the city: Free afternoon to walk around the city with a friend from K2 International, shop, enjoy the typical chocolate con churros, go to the cinema Students will then return to their host families to have dinner and spend some time with their families. Dinner in Spain is not as important as lunch. Dinnertime is between 9:00-10:00. Sometimes it can be even later. After dinner families and the camp may go out for a walk or have a tea or soda in a plaza.
Day 13. Closing ceremony Once the classes are finished, students will receive diplomas and celebrate everything they have accomplished. Last lunch with host family 1:00 Dinner: Farewell Party In the evening, K2 International will plan a typical Spanish barbecue and serve one of the most traditional dishes: La Paella. We will enjoy learning how to cook Paella and eat it on the rooftop at school. This is a special time when students can say farewell to their new friends and exchange contact information. DAY 14 : Hasta Luego Host families and K2 INTERNACIONAL staff will meet the students to say goodbye! Host families will prepare snacks and a lunch for the journey home. We will reminisce about all of the wonderful experiences we enjoyed together during our time in Cadiz.
