Thus, the demand for trained human resources for the trade. As per UNWTO Report Hospitality, Catering & Tourism (HCT) is among the world s top creators of jobs requiring varying degrees of skills and allows for quick entry into the workforce for youth, women and migrant workers. It accounts for 30 per cent of the world s export services. With regard to the supply chain in the sector, one job in the core HCT industry indirectly generates roughly 1.5 additional jobs in the related economy. The UNWTO is expecting the sector s global economy to provide 296 million jobs in 2019. Human Resource is probably one of the most important issues that can make or mar the organization of tomorrow. Education plays a pivotal role in developing Human resources. Recognising the importance of Hospitality & Tourism Education, Government of India has introduced these courses in formal education. Started in early 50 s in India Hospitality education has covered about seven decades in skill development however the entry in university system has been about two decades back. The case of tourism education is also almost the same having witnessed its presence in university education in 1970 s with PG Diploma and early 90 s with introduction to Masters Degree Programmes. Over the years, a variety of programmes have been introduced at School Level, Vocational Level, College and University level. There comes a challenge to discuss debate and have healthy deliberations on Current Status and Future Perspectives of Hospitality & Tourism Education in India. With this background, Institute of Hotel and Tourism Management proposes to organize this one day National Seminar.
