China Scholarships Council (CSC) Project Application Procedure This is short guide providing information on how to apply for a PhD programme and receive an official letter stating your admission, which is required to apply for CSC scholarships. First of all, you must decide which research topic interests you the most among those available. To check the list of research proposals available you must enter the section of our website in which are listed all the Phd programmes offered. http://dottorato.polito.it/en/programmes_offered. 1. List of available PhD programmes Opening the page of the chosen PhD programme, in the section Research Proposals Available are listed all the research topics.
2. "Research proposals available" 3. List of research proposals available for the selected PhD programme Clicking on the title of the research proposal, it will be displayed a document describing the topic, competences and scientific referee for that specific project.
4. Example of s research proposal descriptive sheet Once found a research proposal you are interested in, you shall contact the relevant scientific referee (in the descriptive sheet it is indicated the name and email of the professor) to find out whether he/she is willing to collaborate with you. We suggest you to contact him/her in order to highlight your competences in the research area and to acquire more information on the topic to be researched, if admitted in the PhD programme. During the selection procedure, the Selection Board will contact the referee for the selected project for having a feedback from him/her on the candidate, which will affect the overall assessment of the applicant. Consequently, if the referee states to be willing to supervise your research throughout the PhD career, you shall write his/her name in the filed References. TO SUBMIT A PHD APPLICATION, it is mandatory to fill in the form Apply@polito (https://didattica.polito.it/pls/portal30/sviluppo.pkg_apply.registrazione?p_lang=en ). To comply with the timelines of CSC call, it is mandatory to apply within the Spring Session (call opening: from 15/01/2016 to 15/02/2016). To submit your application, you are required to possess: Master Degree
Second level degree obtained abroad with the minimum GPAi 65/100 and higher; You can submit your application also if you haven t yet obtained the academic title required, under condition that you must obtain it by October, 31st 2016. If possessing more than one M.Sc. degree, you shall indicate which title you want to be evaluated for the purpose of the selection procedure. Certificate of English language knowledge Recognised certificates: IELTS with a minimum score of 5.0; TOEFL ibt with a minimum score of 77 cbt with a minimum score of 210 pbt with a minimum score of 547; Cambridge ESOL examinations General English exams: minimum level accepted is PET pass with merit; Otherwise, a certificate stating that students have obtained Bachelor or Master degree, in which English was used as medium of instruction, certifying that The medium of instruction is English. The call for admission can be submitted even if the above certificates have not been obtained yet, but applicants shall obtain one of them before that the deadline for enrolment expires. In this event, the admission to the selection procedure will be subject to the obtainment of one among the aforementioned certificates; the failure to submit the said certificate at the time of enrolment shall entail the loss of the right to enrol. You shall attach to the application form the following documents too: A copy of a valid identification document: M.Sc. degree thesis abstract Short statement of the applicants research interests and motivations for starting a PhD career, researching the field and PhD programme chosen in the application. Name and email address of the two referees which can be contacted by the Admission Board to acquire useful elements to evaluate the candidate. GRE certificate, if obtained. Any other document which the candidate deems useful for the purpose of evaluating his/her application Both front and rear side With picture and signature In English. Max length: 4.000 words. In the event that the candidate submits an application for more than one PhD programme, he/she can attach a statement for each PhD programme The first name you have to insert is the name of the scientific responsible of Politecnico di Torino that you contacted before applying. The second must be a professor from another Italian or foreign university. GRE certificates can be sent directly by the examination centre to Politecnico di Torino, being an accredited ETS centre (select the code 6994). If in possession of other certificates similar to GRE, they can be attached in the section ogni altro documento (i.e. Any other document). For instance: further Ba. and M.Sc. degrees, Diploma Supplement, prizes,
professional experiences, publications, other documents useful for the purpose of declaring the eligibility of the applicant to enter a PhD programme, etc. T.B.N.: It is mandatory to fill in the section Special Programs, flagging the voice China scholarship Council (CSC). Without flagging this field, you will still be able to apply for a PhD position, but you will be excluded from the allocation of any position reserved to CSC boursaries. You shall pay a non-refundable amount of 30,00 for each application submitted (one per each PhD programme). The payment shall be made on-line via credit card (VISA, MasterCard) at the end of the procedure of online registration. The procedure of registration in the call for admission has to be considered as correctly concluded only after the payment of the due amount; afterwards, it will not be possible to edit the application anymore. BE CAREFUL: after the payment it will not be possible to edit the application anymore. Therefore we recommend you to check that you have completed all sections of the application and you have loaded all the required documents before proceeding with payment. The application deadline is February, 15 2016. At the end of March CSC candidates, who have been admitted in a PhD programme, will be contacted via email by the Doctoral School (writing to the address provided in the call). They will receive an admission letter, the supervisor resume and a short description of the research project which can be attached to their application for the CSC scholarship.
