SYLLABUS FOR THE FIRST TERM GRADE- 3 ACADEMIC YEAR: 2017-18 Subject: ENGLISH Allocation of Marks Exam paper 80% Class Assessment 20 % Reading Skill: Comprehension (unseen passage), Should be able to read unfamiliar texts, understand the meaning of lexical items and answer questions based on it. Writing Skill: Unseen Picture Description/ Completing the incomplete story will be given. Here, students are expected to write meaningful sentences and create distinct introduction, climax and ending. Factual writing: Unseen Descriptive Essay/ Narrative Essay to be written on a topic where the students have to describe or narrate a given topic. Editing Skill: Students will be expected to identify the mistakes in given sentences and rewrite the sentences after correcting them (such as Preposition, Conjunction, Pronoun, Verb and Tense) according to what have been taught in class. Punctuation: Students will be asked to punctuate an unpunctuated passage or single lines by putting appropriate marks. Vocabulary: Students will be expected to answer questions related to synonyms, antonyms. Spellings: Students will be expected to rewrite Commonly Misspelt Words practiced in class from handouts. Idioms and Similes: Students are expected to write meaningful sentences using/applying the correct idioms and similes. Books:
