Personalising to the university itself We will show you how to personalise your answers to the specific university.

INTRODUCTION In this programme we will guide you through every common interview question, showing you examples of good and bad answers, and helping you to create your own personalised responses. Next, we work with you to practice articulate yourself using these model responses, during which we will focus on language, tone, posture, mannerisms and general demeanour to perfect your interview style. Finally, we will drill these answers through intense mock style interviews, giving you video recordings and analysis. MULTIPLE MINI INTERVIEWS (MMI) The majority of medical schools now use MMIs. We put great emphasis on this interview style at Medic Mind as students lack confidence coming into this type of interview. This is for many reasons, including the fact that it is relatively new and so there is little information about it and the format can be very unpredictable. This is where we can help. We have mentors who have been on MMI panels before, and we use our inside knowledge to predict what particular stations could come up at your university interviews. We will run a mock MMI session with you, which will be recorded and something you can watch back in your own time. We cover the most common stations that will appear in your interview, and this includes skills that are already covered in the tutorials above. However, we will run additional sessions which are tailored to MMIs as well as additional stations. This includes: Breaking Bad News Communication Dealing with Difficult Patients Doctor s Duty vs the Law Abstract Practical Stations Dealing with Incompetent Doctors Informing Medical Error Giving Medical Advice Ethical Scenarios Data Interpretation Calculations Many more! 2

OXFORD AND CAMBRIDGE INTERVIEWS (OXBRIDGE) Oxbridge Medical Interviews are distinctly more academically focused than normal medical interviews, and therefore require their own special preparation. Using our specialists in our team who have been through the Oxbridge interviews have compiled interviews, as well as our independent research, we have created the perfect preparation for you. We teach you how to tackle academic questions, imagination questions, graphical case studies, data interpretation, and much more. For each tutorial we teach you, we have a mock role play for you to watch to see exactly how an Oxbridge interview will work. We will also work with you individually to scrutinise your personal statement, helping you to talk fluently and meticulously about extra readings and projects you have undertaken. Teaching includes: Why Oxford? Why Cambridge? General Tips for Oxbridge Medical Knowledge Questions Medical Knowledge - Role Play Interpreting Data - Role Play Imaginative Questions Imaginative Questions - Role Play The Oxford Interview The Cambridge Interview Interpreting Data (Graphs, Diagrams, Text) UNIVERSITY BY UNIVERSITY We focus on each university you are applying to and break down your interview into whether it is MMI or a Panel Interview. We have a tutorial for each of the following universities: Panel Universities Barts Cambridge* Edinburgh Glasgow Imperial Oxford* Plymouth Southampton Swansea UCL 3

MMI Universities Aberdeen Birmingham Brighton and Sussex Bristol Cardiff Dundee Exeter Hull York Keele King s Lancaster Leeds Leicester Liverpool Manchester Newcastle Norwich (UEA) Nottingham Queen s Belfast Sheffield St Andrews St George's PANEL INTERVIEWS We will go through the main criteria that your university choice uses. We have gathered extensive data through online research, our colleagues who have been in the interview and our instincts to develop a list of criteria that we will be focusing on. This could be something as simple as focusing on the university course structure to something more complex as the NHS Constitution. We will also look at particular challenges of panel interviews, such as knowing when to speak, and when you can expect to be interrupted. BMAT ESSAY FOCUS Your BMAT Essay will most likely be scrutinised in your interview, so preparation is essential. We will work with you on the specific title you had. We will begin by doing a general introduction of the essay title you wrote on, by going through a discussion of the points for and against. In the interview they will expect you to expand on the topic beyond just the content of your essay, so it is good to learn extra points for and against. We will then discuss your essay specifically, and talk through your arguments and how the interview questions may be structured. Teaching includes: How to Discuss Your BMAT Essay BMAT Essay: For and Against Building on Your BMAT Essay Personalised Session for You 4

NHS: The Constitution They will ask you if you have read up on the constitution and to give your thoughts and opinions on whether you agree with the aims set out by the NHS and whether or not they are achievable We will begin by identifying the key topics you need to know, and then give you a brief introduction so you can go on to do your own research. We will also work with you on debate topics surrounding these key issues. NHS: Health and Social Care Act (2012) This is a very recent reform to the NHS which has changed the way primary care trusts run, You will need to know the Health and Social Care Act (2012) inside out. We will inform you of the main things you need to know about the reform and how you can argue your case for the changes and against it.
