summer LAS in switzerland Since 1949, we have been delivering the very best dynamic, innovative, and exciting summer programs in Leysin s stunning location. New for 2018, we have created an unforgettable experience, built around the LAS core values of learning and selfdiscovery, with two new programs: LAS summer and LAS edge. LAS summer allows students aged 10-17 to pre-select from a wide variety of stimulating core morning programs Language, Academic, or Sport, and a variety of afternoon clubs. Many other sports, activities, and excursions are also offered to satisfy all tastes and interests. LAS edge is an exclusive new program for students aged 13-18 to develop leadership through an engaging three-week program of self-discovery, focusing on our three core values Responsibility, Compassion, and Innovation. We sincerely look forward to welcoming new and returning students and to making LAS Summer 2018 a unique, engaging, and exciting experience. LAS summer 3

language academic program program The LAS Language Program is an intensive course which immerses students in their chosen language (English or French) in order to increase skills, confidence, and ability. Students are divided by age and ability within each group. 09:00-12:00 Ages: 10-17 ENGLISH STREAM English Elementary English Intermediate English Advanced Pre-select, prior to arrival FRENCH STREAM French Elementary French Intermediate French Advanced The LAS Academic Program is made up of Accelerator and Explorer subjects students choose two courses from either stream shown below. Accelerator provides a clear focus on core school subjects. Explorer subjects offer a range of fascinating topics that support the development of key skills in a particular subject area. 09:00-12:00 Pre-select, prior to arrival Ages: 10-17 ACCELERATOR COURSES Programming - Learn, grow, or advance your computer programming skills. Behavioral Economics - When psychology and economics intersect. How much of our daily life is beyond our control? Global Leadership - Explore the behavior and characteristics of world leaders and understand how these traits apply to leadership, status, and influence. Math - Develop tools and methods to fine tune or get ahead in your math skills. EXPLORER COURSES Code Cracking - Learn the amazing history and science of encryption and decryption. Robotics - An introductory class where students will learn to write code and program robots. Unsolved Mysteries - Students identify, explore, and discuss great unsolved mysteries that occurred throughout history. The Art of Science - Learn how artists and scientists use inquiry and observation to study the world around them. 4 language program academic program 5

sports program 09:00-12:00 Pre-select, prior to arrival Ages: 10-17 SUMMER TENNIS PROGRAM The LAS Summer Tennis Program offers a quality tennis camp for all ages and abilities. Players will flourish through challenging training on court, while at the same time having fun. The program will also increase their personal and social skills while interacting with coaches and fellow tennis players. MOUNTAIN LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM The LAS Mountain Leadership Development Program (MLDP) promotes environmental responsibility and awareness, while developing resilience, confidence, leadership, and communication skills through a variety of vigorous outdoor activities. Students can earn points towards their Duke of Edinburgh award. tennis 6 sports program

LAS edgetm INNOVATION COMPASSION RESPONSIBILITY LAS edge is a dynamic, inspiring, and engaging summer program designed to build confidence and develop leadership skills for future life success. Through a perfectly blended mix of cutting edge and exhilarating activities, company visits, and high-level guest speakers, LAS edge is run over three weeks each week focusing on elements of the LAS Mission: Innovation, Compassion, and Responsibility. It has been carefully crafted to broaden horizons and increase potential, awareness of the environment, and determination to succeed. This is an approach Leysin American School has been successfully applying for the past 60 years empowering students to be resourceful and creative thinkers in order to achieve their goals and ambitions. INNOVATION WEEK Innovation week showcases new and innovative products and solutions debuting in our world today. The purpose of this week is to open our student s eyes to new ways of thinking. Discover how the first solar-powered airplane circumnavigated the globe Explore collaborative and innovative design projects around the world Become more creative through innovative group discussion and debate COMPASSION WEEK Compassion Week aims to provide students with greater awareness and appreciation of current humanitarian issues and how these are currently being handled in Switzerland. Gain hands-on humanitarian experience Appreciate that compassion is not charity Analyze the importance and necessity of community volunteering RESPONSIBILITY WEEK Responsibility Week introduces students to notions of collective responsibility and self-awareness in every day life.
