Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency is hiring a Full-time, Pre-K Mentor Teacher $15.27 to $17.58 per hour DOE Employee medical, dental & vision, life insurance, flex spending account, 401k & agency contribution of 4% of annual pay 10 month position, paid holidays, paid personal & sick days paid winter & spring breaks Additional 2% hourly pay available for bilingual staff, if needed by the Program. The Mentor Teacher works with site teams to support them in effectively developing of their classroom environment, using curriculum, and planning educational experiences for children ages 3 to 5. The person in this position will model, consult, and provide guidance and resources to the classroom staff under the supervision of the Education Specialist. See attachment for full job description. Work with site classroom teams, education team and Education Specialist (50%) Substitute Teaching (30%) Staff Training and Development, including CLASS skillsets (20%) Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); Bachelor s degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education; and a minimum of five years experience working in preschool classrooms; two years of experience working in Head Start classrooms preferred. Prior experience working with adults in a helping or teaching capacity and the ability to work cooperatively in a team is required. This position requires candidates to obtain or have a Food Handler s Card; active enrollment in Child Care Division s Criminal Background Registry; Current CPR/First Aid Certification; ability to pass an occupational physical exam; a satisfactory driving record and a valid Oregon Driver s License. The Program may occasionally need bilingual staff at particular classroom sites. To plan and evaluate curriculum, weekly lesson plans, and daily classroom activities that are developmentally appropriate and responsive to the classroom and individual goals of children. To ensure inclusion of the entire site team (including Family Educators, Teachers, Assistants, Parents and volunteers) in the classroom and site planning. To provide technical assistance related to paperwork pertaining to education and individualization. To follow up on recommendations of Content Area Referrals as assigned. Support staff in appropriate usage of classroom environment space and equipment. Work with Education Specialist to conduct CLASS and other classroom observations and debriefs with staff. Provides information to Team Resource Specialists and Education Specialist. Serves on Education Committee. Assists with research on recommendations as assigned. Prepares curriculum materials and resources for classroom staff usage. Participates in Kindergarten Transition meetings as needed to help teachers and participates in organizational process as needed. Assist the Education Specialist to ensure that all Performance Standards pertaining to Education and Early Childhood Development are met. Demonstrates effective classroom management skills and positive ways to guide young children in the classroom. To model appropriate interactions with children and adults. Works with site staff in developing and utilizing effective Green Zone PBIS classroom strategies. In consultation with the Education Specialist and Team Resource Specialists, provides mentoring, coaching, guidance and direction for Teachers, and Assistants in the performance of his/her responsibilities in the classroom and on home visits. Provide on-going support to Team Resource Specialist to ensure smooth operation of the classroom site. Communicates regularly both in writing and meeting face to face. Work in partnership with all members of the Education Team to promote a comprehensive approach to education throughout the program. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency utilizing TS Gold and other program systems and provides technical assistance for education staff. Facilitates monthly mentor coach meetings and debriefs with Education Specialist. Communicate and follow verbal and written instructions. Maintain regular and punctual attendance. Perform other program related duties as assigned by the supervisor. Substitute Teaching Staff Placement (30%) Under the supervision of the Education Specialist, maintains current lists of substitute teaching staff and assigns daily placement of substitute teaching staff. Serves as the main contact to receive daily requests for substitute teaching staff. Training development, coordination, presentation (20%) Work in partnership with Education Specialist to identify training needs and opportunities and conduct trainings for Head Start staff. Coordinates training and participates in program and community events for teachers, assistants, parents, and community members pertaining to child development and curriculum. Some of these may include: Child Development Associate program, monthly teacher/assistant trainings, new staff orientation, parent training, early literacy mentor coaching. Provide training, guidance, direction, and technical assistance for Teachers, and Assistants, other assigned staff and volunteers.
