The following materials will guide you through our e- learning system and outline the most important/most used links. It is best to follow the material while simultaneously navigating through the e-learning system. EXPLORING THE HOME PAGE When you first sign in to the e-learning system, you will arrive at the home page. For your convenience, the home page gives an overview of recent, unread messages and ungraded assessments. You can also access other areas of the system via the tabs along the top of the page. Top navigation menu. Recent, unread messages. You can click the blue subject link to open and read message. Once read, they no longer appear on home page.
Ungraded student assessments. Click each tab to view and grade submitted assignments, essays and worksheets.
EXPLORING THE STUDENTS TAB Search Search students in the system. Expired/Expiring Students View expired and expiring students. Ungraded Submissions View and grade ungraded student submissions. Grade Management -- View and graded ungraded student submissions. Demographics -- Search enrolled students demographics. Class Attendance View class attendance. Consolidated Report -- View consolidated student grade reports. STUDENTS > SEARCH To view a student s profile, click the blue ID in the first column. Using the search tools, you can search for students by first/last name, status, grade, etc.
STUDENTS > EXPIRED/EXPIRING STUDENTS Forest Trail Academy is a self-paced program with rolling admissions. Students have one year from the date of enrollment to complete their classes. You can view Expiring and Expired students via Students > Expired Students. It s a good habit to contact expiring students who have not completed your class remind them of their upcoming expire date and work out a plan to complete the course by the expire date.
STUDENTS > UNGRADED SUBMISSIONS Much like the view from the Home Page, the Ungraded Submissions page lists all ungraded student work. The Summary tab provides an overview by course of how many assessments of each type are currently ungraded. Clicking any of the other tabs ( Assignments, Essays, and Worksheet ) will open up lists of student submissions. Here, you will see the date and time the work was submitted, the title of the assessment, the course and the student name. You can click the blue Title link to view and grade the assessment (see Grading Student Work for more).
STUDENTS > CLASS ATTENDANCE You can view student attendance by class via Students > Class Attendance. Using the search tools at the top, you can select the month, year and course for which you wish to view class attendance. The attendance report will list all students in the class, marking attendance with an x. It is good habit to check student attendance daily. Students who have not been active in your class for 3 consecutive days should be contacted.
EXPLORING THE COURSES TAB My Classes -- Preview your classes and gradebooks. Content Management Manage course content. Calendars View your calendar. Handouts View course handouts. COURSES > MY CLASSES Clicking the blue Preview link will open up the class. Here you can view course content and assessments. See next page for more. Clicking the new gradebook link will open the course gradebook. Here, you can view student grades, reopen and delete assignments, edit scores, and add attempts. See Grading Student Work for more.
COURSES > MY CLASSES > PREVIEW Clicking the blue Preview link for a class opens a new window containing the content of the class. You can navigate through the class using the left-hand navigation. Clicking a chapter (+) in the left-hand navigation will open a drop down of pages within the chapter. Clicking on a page will open the page in the window on the right.
COURSES > CALENDARS You can view your calendar Monthly, Weekly or Daily using the tabs along the top. To add an appointment/activity to your calendar, click the square below the date.
EXPLORING THE COMMUNICATION TAB Message Center View and send messages to students, teachers, parents, administration and tech support. Community Access the FTA Community. COMMUNICATION > MESSAGE CENTER To send a message, click the New tab. See more on next page. To open/read a message, click the blue Subject link. You can flag a message by clicking the star. To unflag, simply click the star again. Received messages are sorted by sender. Click the tabs to view messages from Teacher Services, Tech Services, Students, etc.
COMMUNICATION > MESSAGE CENTER > NEW Use the dropdown menus to select recipient. Type message here.
GRADING STUDENT WORK FOUR TYPES OF ASSESSMENTS: Assignments: Assignments are pieces of work that must be uploaded by the student. Esssays: Esssays are pieces of work that must be uploaded by the student. Worksheets: Worksheets are completed by the student online. Students do not have to upload anything. Quizzes: Quizzes are completed by the student online. Quizzes are computer scored. There are a number of ways you can view and grade student work. The most convenient way is via the Home Page. However, you can also visit Ungraded Submissions (in the Students tab), Grade Management (in the Students tab), Gradebook (in the Courses > My Classes tab) and by viewing a student s profile. GRADING FROM UNGRADED SUBMISSIONS Clicking any of the other tabs ( Assignments, Essays, and Worksheet ) will open up lists of student submissions. Here, you will see the date and time the work was submitted, the title of the assessment, the course and the student name. You can click the blue Title link to view and grade the assessment.
GRADING FROM GRADEBOOK You can also view student submissions from the gradebook. In the gradebook, ungraded work shows up as Grade. Click the blue Grade link to view and grade the assessment.
Enter score for assignment here. Note this assignment is out of 5 possible points. Click Save grades when you re finished grading to submit grade and comments. View original assignment here great for reference! Number of times student has attempted assignment. Click blue link to download student work. Add comments to student here. ** Enter key will save grade does not input return.**
EXPLORING THE GRADEBOOK
Manual Manually input a score. Edit Edit the current score. Attempt Add an extra attempt for grade below 70%. Delete Remove all logs and grades for assessment. This student has not uploaded this assessment (Chapter 2 Test) via the dropbox. However, he/she may have sent the assessment to the teacher as an attachment in the message center. In this case, the teacher can manually enter the student s score for this assignment by clicking the blue Manual link. If you wish to remove all logs and grades for an assessment, click the blue Delete link. This is not a recommended practice, as there will be no record of any submission or grade. This student has attempted the Scientific Notation quiz twice. He/She has failed both times. By default, assignments are automatically reopened if a student scores below a 70%. But only one extra attempt is allowed. To allow this student a third attempt, click the blue Attempt link. This student scored 3.33 / 5 (66.6%) on this assignment. But the teacher accidently entered the wrong score. The correct score should have been 4.33. In this case, the teacher can edit the current score by clicking the blue Edit link.
MARKING A STUDENT COMPLETE When a student has successfully completed all assignments for a class, they must be marked complete. STEP 1: Use the Search in the Students tab to locate the student.
STEP 2: Click the blue ID link next to the student s name to open their profile.
STEP 3: Select the Courses tab. STEP 4: Click the blue Change Status link for the appropriate class.
STEP 5: Select Completed from the dropdown menu. Then click Submit to change the status. **PLEASE ONLY MARK AS COMPLETED OR ACTIVE DO NOT USE WITHDRAWN, ON HOLD, ETC.**
