The Assignment Trashcan is a new tab in the Gradebook which lists Assignments that have been deleted from the selected course section. It is used to save and store these deleted Assignments in case a user wishes to retrieve and restore them to their original course section. Where is the Assignment Trashcan located? The Assignment Trashcan is a third level tab under the Gradebook Assignments tab. It was added to the Gradebook on May 21, 2007. Any Assignments deleted prior to that date cannot be retrieved. Deleting a Single Assignment There are two ways to delete an Assignment in the Gradebook: the first method is to delete the Assignment individually from the Gradebook Assignments Modify Assignment screen. The second method is to delete the Assignment using the mass delete function on the Gradebook Assignments Assignment List screen. In both cases the deleted Assignment is moved to the Assignment Trash Can. Procedure to Delete a single Assignment 1. Navigate to the Gradebook Gradebook spreadsheet screen 2. Locate the Assignment you wish to delete 3. Click on the top line of the Assignment s column header. This will bring up the Gradebook Assignments Modify Assignment screen for the selected Assignment. 4. Click the Delete button at the bottom of the screen. Genesis Gradebook Trash Can Page 2 of 5

Note the Delete button and the checked checkboxes at left Mass Delete Assignments The mass delete function provides an easy way to remove an entire group of unneeded Assignments. It is exclusively located on the Gradebook Assignments Assignment List screen. Procedure to Mass Delete Assignments 1. Navigate to the Gradebook Assignments Assignment List screen for the selected course section. 2. Locate the Assignments you wish to delete and check the checkbox corresponding to each of them. 3. Click the Delete button at the bottom of the screen. This causes the Delete verification dialog to appear (see below Figure 4). 4. Click the OK button to continue and delete all of the checked Assignments. Click the Cancel button to abandon the delete operation. If you click OK the Assignments will be deleted and removed from the displayed list. You will not be shown a confirmation dialog. Genesis Gradebook Trash Can Page 3 of 5

Locating Deleted Assignments Any Assignment you have deleted now appears in the Assignment Trashcan for its original course section and can be restored at any time. The students grades are preserved and will be restored properly along with the Assignment definition. Once restored the Assignment appears normally in the spreadsheet on the Gradebook Gradebook screen. It is not flagged as having been previously deleted. Procedure to Restore an Assignment ( UNDO ASSIGNMENT DELETE ) 1. Navigate to the Gradebook Assignments Assignment Trashcan screen 2. Locate the Assignment you wish to restore 3. Click the Restore icon button corresponding to the Assignment you wish to restore. 4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 to restore additional Assignments. Determining if Assignments in the Trash Can had been Graded The Number of Grades column on the Gradebook Assignments Assignment Trashcan screen lists the number of students who had been given grades for the Assignment.
