Smart Notebook Tutorial Smart Notebook is a great way to have a visual and interactive lesson for your students. I m going to share with you how to do the basics. I like to start by adding a background color. You will right click in the screen and select set background fill.
Simply choose your color and it will add it automatically. Now let s add some text. You will click the letter A with the red line underneath it.
I like to add graphics to my lessons. It is very quick and easy. You can also use the images for interactive elements to your lesson. You will select the picture frame tab on the left side of the page.
Type in what you are looking for and look through the images. Once you have selected the image you would like simply drag and drop it onto the slide. Ok so you ve finished an intro slide. Let s add another. You can select the add page button at the top or you can select the drop down arrow on your current slide. The two options I most commonly use are Insert blank page and clone page.
So now you know how to add text and images, if you want to use it similar to powerpoint you are good to go. If you want it to be an interactive tool for your students, let s keep going. There are tons of new features for Smart Notebook. I am going to start with my favorite. LAB: Lesson Activity Builder The lab has new and engaging tools to use with your own custom content. To access these features you are going to select the upside down top hat at the top of your page.
A new screen will pop up with the activities you can use. You can preview the activities which will include a short video on how the game works with a description.
When you are ready you can add the activity to the page you are currently on in your slides. Be ready with the content you want to input. The activity I am most excited about is Shout it Out! This is a mobile enabled activity meaning that students can use their own device to participate in the lesson. It is web based, so any device that can connect online is compatible. The first choice you have to make is do you want to input their feedback or answers into categories or placed on your screen randomly.
I m going to show you categorized. You will start by designating your categories, you can have up to four. I love that students can text in their answers or if you would like pictures. I like the concept of pictures for checking steps of a math problem. You can have students work out a problem and when they finish submit it. This is a great way to go over work with the class and check if everyone understands the concept. Text has simpler applications so I am going to show you how to do that.
After you input your categories and make the appropriate selections, Select Next. You will then be prompted if you would like to add game components. Timer : Add this if you would like to set time parameters for how long students have to answer. Dice : If your students are numbered you may want to add dice to designate turns for answering. -Or if it is a math lesson you can roll for the question components. Hat Pick : This will help you select students. Buzzer : Allow students to buzz in using this game show component. Spinning Wheel : This is another tool to select students.
Once you have added your last game additions, select finish. You can start activity at any time.
Once you start your activity it will prompt your students to go to the URL: Classlab.com and give them an activity ID. This is what their screen will look like. They will type in the given activity ID and their name.
Once they have logged in they will be able submit their answers. This is what their screen will look like. Their answer will appear in the category they designate their answer.
If an answer is incorrect or you would like to do another round of answers. You can drag the answer to the trashcan to delete it. If you need to edit the activity after it has been saved, Select the pencil in the right hand corner of the screen.
It will take you back to the initial screen to go through the first steps to edit the component you would like to change.
