Family Medicine Residency Program
West Kendall Baptist Hospital Family Medicine Center A new state-of-the-art facility adjacent to West Kendall Baptist Hospital, the Family Medicine Center was designed to promote the program s goal of providing leading practices in education and compassionate care in a high-tech and personal environment. The Family Medicine Center is the site of the resident and faculty continuity practice. It houses spacious, accessible exam rooms equipped with bedside computers for electronic charting, as well as resident office space and a high-tech meeting room wired for multimedia presentations and teleconferencing. Residents will work with the full spectrum of pediatric to adult patients and provide care for acute and chronic conditions. Florida International University Family Medicine Subinternships The FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine offers fourth-year medical students inpatient and outpatient subinternships in family medicine at West Kendall Baptist Hospital. Participants work under the supervision of faculty and residents in the Family Medicine Residency Program. Subinternships are four weeks in length.

With four residents per year, the residency program offers an individualized approach preparing clinically skilled physicians to work effectively as part of larger healthcare systems. Residents receive training in quality assessment and improvement, research and public policy, while developing leadership and team-building skills through collaboration on interprofessional teams and community engagement. We provide a high-tech and personalized patient- and family-centered environment coupled with unsurpassed excellence in quality of care measures and patient satisfaction scores. As the first residency program at West Kendall Baptist Hospital, we are uniquely positioned to provide a rich and personalized residency learning experience. Our vision is to offer the preeminent family medicine residency program in South Florida, attracting, training and retaining highly skilled physicians to serve the community. Curriculum Our curriculum spans the life cycle from preconception and prenatal care through death and dying and includes care for patients in the Family Medicine Center, emergency room, inpatient hospital, specialist offices, nursing home, hospice, at sporting events and home. Residents receive training in the care of children and adults, with a focus on comprehensive care, including prevention, chronic disease care, acute care and behavioral health.
