Ages 12 15 MCAD s single- and multi-week young teen classes are designed to introduce students to a variety of mediums, processes, materials, and ideas. Teens will develop technical skills and learn how to translate their ideas into visual form. It was a really fun and informative class that made me think differently and more openly about art! 2017 Student Professional artists guide an encouraging and constructive classroom in which teens develop focus and build confidence. Alternative Photography June 18 22 $210 Experiment with alternative photography techniques such as cyanotypes, photograms, and photomontage outside the traditional studio environment. Comic Book Creation 1 June 18 July 11 (no class July 2 and 4) $220 Learn the expansive and diverse world of comic book stories and drawing styles while learning the fundamental aspects of comic book creation and design. Develop your new skills further in Comic Book Creation 2. Drawing Fundamentals June 19 July 12 (no class July 3 and 5) Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. $228 Master the skill of drawing from observation with direct exercises that will incorporate a variety of materials and genres such as still life, portraiture, and landscape. Book Arts Boot Camp June 25 29 $435 Experience all the basics of book arts papermaking, printing, book binding, and marbling in this multifaceted class. Introduction to Printmaking June 25 29 $235 Discover the expansive world of printmaking while you learn relief printing, intaglio, monoprinting, and screenprinting techniqes. Music Video Production $190 Learn, practice, and perform all aspects of music production through hands-on experimental learning. Comic Book Creation 2 July 16 August 8 $290 Learn to write and illustrate a complete comic while exploring in-depth comic art and handmade book techniques. This course builds off of skills learned in Comic Book Creation 1. Introduction to Painting July 17 August 9 Tuesdays and Thursdays Become familiar with the elements of art as you explore the basic concepts, techniques, and materials used in contemporary painting. Graphic Design for Music July 23 27 $180 Explore graphic design, typography, and image-making with Adobe Photoshop to create an album cover based on your favorite band or musician. Creative Drawing $188 Focus on the expressive side of drawing as you learn scale, value, mark making, shape, and composition.
Ages 15 18 Whether your teen is preparing for college or simply exploring their interests, MCAD s pre-college classes offer the chance to learn from professional artists at one of the top art and design colleges in the Midwest. Single- and multi-week classes include drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, portfolio preparation, and more, and expose teen artists to the skills necessary to succeed in high school, college, and beyond. The Comic Book Inside and Out June 18 July 11 (no class July 2 and 4) $220 Learn the tools and foundations of storytelling as you develop your own personal mini-comic to share with the class. Portfolio Prep: Drawing for High School Students (Sec 1) June 18 July 11 (no class July 2 and 4) $220 Develop exemplary observational drawings for your college portfolio while working with still-life, landscape, and figurative subject matter. Introduction to Graphic Design June 19 July 12 (no class July 3 and 5) Tuesdays and Thursdays $225 Explore graphic design, image-making, and typography through a series of fun and fast-paced exercises and projects. Teen Painting June 19 July 12 (no class July 3 and 5) Tuesdays and Thursdays $225 Learn basic color theory and a variety of painting approaches and techniques. Gain exposure to artists past and present. Frame by Frame: Intro to Stop- Motion Animation $188 Learn the fundamentals, techniques, and basic concepts of this traditional and hands-on style of animation. Pre-College Studio Intensive: Drawing and Painting $800 (1 college credit) Explore a wide range of techniques as you practice in MCAD s professional and expansive drawing and painting classrooms to hone your skills and define your creative vision. Portfolio Prep: Drawing for High School Students (Sec 2) July 16 August 8 $290 Develop exemplary observational drawings for your college portfolio while working with still-life, landscape, and figurative subject matter. Pre-College Studio Intensive: Illustration and Graphic Design July 23 27 Monday-Friday $740 (1 college credit) Combine traditional methods with the latest software to create real-world projects similar to those completed by professional illustrators and designers. Pre-College Studio Intensive: Digital Photography and Filmmaking July 30 August 3 $705 (1 college credit) Build your media arts portfolio and create advanced projects in both digital photography and filmmaking using MCAD s state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. Introduction to Color Theory $180 Expand your understanding of the element of color, learn how to effectively use color to create a bold impact, and create artworks for your portfolio. Introduction to Watercolor $180 Learn traditional and non-traditional techniques of watercolor including both an extension of drawing and a foundation for other painting mediums. Pre-College Studio Intensive: Comic Art and Hand-Drawn Animation $750 (1 college credit) Engage in hands-on demonstrations and assignments designed to develop your narrative and drawing skills as well as basic animation principles.

After reviewing the class descriptions and ensuring that you can satisfy any stated prerequisites, complete one of the following methods to reserve your seat in the class. Online Review MCAD s class listings and register directly on the course page(s). Any discounts offered at the time of your registration will be automatically credited to your order. In Person Visit the Continuing Education office, room M105 of the Morrison Building on the MCAD campus, open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Payment may be made by credit card, check, cash, or money order.
