Brick Township Public Schools SUPERINTENDENT S CORNER April 24, 2015 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT ART SHOW Hundreds of friends and family came to celebrate the arts at Veterans Memorial Elementary School this past Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Art work from all elementary schools in the district were on display, showcasing the many talented young artists in the Brick Township School district. VETERANS MEMORIAL MIDDLE SCHOOL EVENING OF THE ARTS Veterans Memorial Middle School hosted their 12th Annual Art Show this past Tuesday, April 21st. It was an amazing evening celebrating the student's success in the Arts! As is tradition for the opening reception, the halls were flooded with proud parents and families to view artwork created by the middle school students throughout the year. There were 3D ceramic artwork, paper mache sculptures, large scale projects created as part of a community mural effort by 7 th grade classes, plus an unveiling of the latest mural created by the ACT class for Lead & Seed. The Artwork will continue to be on display at the school until May 1, 2015.

EARTH DAY 2015 Spring has sprung at Osbornville Elementary School! In celebration of Earth Day, Mr. Johnson and the Early Act Club, planted flowers with the hopes that the warm weather will continue. They also celebrated by enjoying an Earth Day themed concert presented by Mr. Beirne and the Osbornville School fourth grade chorus. The fourth grade chorus also talked about the importance of keeping our earth clean every day. Drum Point Elementary School also celebrated Earth Day this past week. Miss Marziarz s fourth graders participated in an Earth Day Clean Up. The students utilized their mechanical grabber designs they made during a S.T.E.M. lesson.

ARBOR DAY On Wednesday, April 22, the students and staff at Herbertsville Elementary School held their 15 th Annual Arbor Day celebration. Mrs. Larned and Mrs. Pelo arranged for a Crepe Myrtle Tree to be generously donated by the Ocean County Shade Tree Commission. All the students took part in the ceremony by singing songs, performing plays, reading poems, and telling tree jokes. VETERANS MEMORIAL MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH TEAM The Veterans Memorial Middle School 7th and 8th Grade Math Team competed in the Ocean County Math League Competition on Wednesday, April 22nd. The 8th Grade Math Team placed 4th overall. The team consisted of Cole Wagner, Jared Hutson, Sydney Burton, Sean Beelitz & Nick Reisig. In addition, Sean Beelitz (pictured below left) was the 4th highest scorer for all of the 8th grade participants. A member of the 7th Grade Math Team, Jonah Japzon (pictured below right), was the overall 5th highest scorer in the 7th grade competition. A job well done by everyone.

LAKE RIVIERA MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS WIN ELKS ESSAY CONTEST Lake Riviera Middle School s Alyssa Carlucci and Rheymon Barretto, students in Mr. Malpass and Ms. Navas six grade classes, won the essay contest sponsored by the Brick Elks. The topic of the essay was What does the pledge mean to me? The students received a certificate and $50 from Elks Americanism Chairman, Ken Genalo. The essay contest was offered to 5 th and 6 th grade students in three township schools. LAKE RIVIERA MIDDLE SCHOOL IRON CHEF COMPETITION Lake Riviera Middle School Students in Mrs. Stablie s 8 th grade cooking class participated in an Iron Chef competition. Student chefs worked in groups to research and create recipes, then served their dishes to a group of judges. They were especially excited to be judged by The Food Network s Chopped champ (and LRMS dad) Eric Weatherspool. Students Jessica Anderson, Ryan LeChien, Mikayla Oliveira, Lacey Wernoch, and William Browne brought home the win with their tropical-inspired dishes: pineapple salsa, pineapple-lemon Jell-O, and mango-pineapple drink.

OBSBORNVILLE FAMILY NIGHT On Friday, April 17 th, Osbornville Elementary families enjoyed an evening of playing basketball. Ms. Steigerwald and Mr. Bautista demonstrated how to play and enjoy a game of basketball. The evening was one of family fitness and fun. Have a great Weekend, Walter Uszenski Walter Uszenski, Ed.D. Lake Riviera Middle School cordially invites you to join us for our first annual Dream & S.T.E.A.M Tuesday, April 28 th In the LRMS MPR 6:30-8:30 pm This EXPO will feature many unique and exciting displays from our Fine, Performing and Practical Arts Departments. This EXPO features projects that are S.T.E.A.M infused! In addition, our Science & Technology departments will be showcasing our state of the art computer equipment that is used in many cross-curricular settings. Our Physical Education department will be presenting their brand new interactive Wii station as well as Health information. During the evening, you will see our ELL students in action at their interactive language learning booth. The Library will be revealing our grade level summer reading lists and encouraging students to read! Explore cultural celebrations with our Spanish classes! Come and see our TSA, Art Club, Interact, Lead & Seed, Kettle Creek and K.A.R.E Club displays and participate in some of their activities. While at the EXPO become a judge at our Cupcake Wars and enjoy a delicious treat! On your way around the bend will be a musical cabaret featuring Voices from the Lake, our strings section and The EDGE directed by our Music Department. While listening to the music enjoy a gallery setting of artwork from all grade levels. View the culinary wonders created by our Cooking and Consumer Science classes. The work created by our Communication Arts classes will displayed in the Communications Cove. Woodshop will have a delightful display of sample projects created in class. Stop by the EXCEL table and view their newest projects, including their award-winning cardboard canoes and many other exciting higher level thinking projects. At LRMS we proudly work together for the success of our students! We are so excited to showcase our student achievements & Celebrate SUCCESS with you!
