Workshop on Spectroscopy & its Perspectives (WSP-2015) September 10-12, 2015 held at Tirupattur, Tamilnadu Indian Academy of sciences, Bangalore, Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi and The National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad jointly organized a three days workshop on Spectroscopy and its perspectives (WSP-2015) at the Sacred Heart college (Autonomous), Tirupattur, Tamilnadu during 10-12, September 2015. The Chairman of Chemical Sciences Division, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Prof. P.K.Das inaugurated the workshop along with Rev.Dr. D.Maria Antony Raj, the Principal of Sacred Heart College, Rev. Dr. C.M.Varghese, the Principal of Don Bosco College, Yelagiri Hills, and Dr. S. A. Martin Britto Dhas, the coordinator of the workshop and Dr. A. Albert Irudayaraj, Head, Department of Physics. In his inaugural address, Prof. P.K.Das, stressed the importance of need based research directed towards solving issues concerning the society. Rev. Dr. D.Maria Antony Raj, the Principal of elaborated the various steps the college is taking to ensure research culture in the campus. In the first day, Prof. P.K.Das, Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, IISc, Bangalore delivered lectures on molecular spectroscopy-i. Dr. Anshu Pandey, Solid State and Structural Chemistry Unit, IISc, Bangalore dwelt at length about Quantum mechanics and spectroscopy of solids. Prof. E. Arunan, Department of Inorganic & Physical Chemistry, IISc, Bangalore gave thought provoking lectures on why do molecules absorb/emit radiation? and molecular beams in spectroscopy. In the second day, Prof. A. K. Mishra, Department of Chemistry, IIT Madras, delivered lectures on some recent trends in fluorescence spectroscopy and Analytical fluorimetry of multifluorophoric system. Prof. P.K.Das delivered a lecture on Molecular Spectroscopy-II. Prof.S.Ashokan, Department of Instrumentation and Applied Physics, IISc, Bangalore delivered interesting lectures on Amorphous semiconductors and applications as well as Fibre Bragg Grating sensors and their applications.

In the third day, Prof. P.K.Das delivered a interesting lecture on Non-linear Optics-I, Prof.S.Ramasesha, Solid State and Structural Chemistry Unit, IISc, Bangalore spoke about Electronic states in molecules and solids and understanding electronic processes in molecules for devices applications. Prof. V. Venkataraman, Department of Physics, IISc, Bangalore delivered lectures on optical Absorption and photoluminescence spectra of semiconductor Hetereostructures and photo reflectance and spin-dependant absorption spectroscopy of semiconductors. 16 faculty members, 28 research scholars and 56 post graduate students from 21 colleges and universities across the state have participated and benefitted from this workshop. In all, a total of 15 lectures were given on various spectroscopic techniques and their applications in different fields of science and technologyproblems. The participants interacted with the speakers and clarified their doubts and they candidly expressed their happiness saying that this workshop was very much helpful for pursuing their research. Dr.S. A. Martin Britto Dhas thanked all the resource persons and the participants during the valedictory session of the workshop. Inaugural function of the workshop
