NOTES FROM FRANCIN E This past week I had the opportunity to attend the first of a two-week Intense Economic Development Training Course held at Auburn University. On the first day, we learned about the Five P s, People, Perspective, Planning, Partnerships and Persistence. We listened to approximately 30 speakers throughout the week. The Mayor of Thomasville, Sheldon Day was one of the best. Along with Mr. Greg Barker, Sr. Vice -President of Business Development with Alabama Power, Phillip Dunlap, Economic Director for the City of Auburn and of course I enjoyed Randy George, President of the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce. We also had paneled discussions with Human Resource Managers from large companies such as Briggs and Stratton, Great Lakes Metal Stamping and the Donaldson Company, Inc. located in the Auburn/Opelika area. All in all, it was a very informative week. There were approximately 50 attendees from all over the state holding various jobs in Economic Development, City Management, Alabama Power Company Office Managers, College Interns and other Chamber Professionals. I appreciate the opportunity to learn from these business professionals and to represent Greenville and Butler County. My second week begins on September 10 th and I look forward to seeing everyone again and continuing to build a relationship. QUOTE OF THE MONTH The applicant who gets the job isn t the one who did everything expected of them at their last job. It s the one who did more.
