Getting Started with Leadership Advantage 3.0 This guide will help you learn about important features and functionality in Leadership Advantage 3.0 here in Santa Clara County. Explore the Home Page The Skillsoft Leadership Advantage Home page provides easy access to Learning Tracks and a selection of videos and featured book summaries by many of today's most influential thought leaders. You can also access Live Events, take a product tour, and launch online help. On the top third, Learning Tracks are organized into Core Competencies and Leadership Categories. Selected tracks are curated to match each of the Core Competencies of the Manager, Supervisor and CEMA Skill Set Model Competencies. These tracks may change periodically to emphasize particular topics within a competency. When you are looking for a Track to fill a specific Competency need, this is where to look. The next set of tabs will be curated to match specific programs or topics that are of particular interest. Not only will the Tracks change but the Categories will also. These have been selected as being relevant to the topic or program Flag icons to the left of the track titles indicate the tracks you've accessed previously and whether the track is in progress (yellow flag) or completed (green flag). When you hover over the Last Accessed icon (forward arrow), the last accessed date displays to the right of the last 5 tracks accessed. Click this arrow to return to the previously accessed track. 1
All 37 available Learning Tracks can be accessed from the three standard Leadership Categories in the last three tabs. This makes it possible for you to select any of the Learning Tracks in the collection at any time. These same Tracks may appear in the Core Competency tabs or the specific program or topic tabs when they have been curated as relevant to that tab. This design provides you with two options. Guided selections by Competency, topic or program when you need learning to match a specific need. Or unrestricted access to all of the Learning Tracks when you have a personal interest or curiosity about a topic. The next upcoming Live Event is always displayed near the bottom of the page. The featured asset carousel on the very bottom of the Home page highlights a variety of assets from across all of the Learning Tracks and refreshes with new assets daily. 2
Explore the Track Home Page 1. The Track Index allows you to view and launch all of the assets contained in the track. Assets are conveniently divided into sections that show what content can be read, watched, applied, or even downloaded, to view or listen to when it s convenient. The Essentials provides a clear visual navigation through the elements of a track. 2. Do You Need It? helps determine if the track content is aligned with your developmental goals, and can guide whether The Core Message, or Explore in Depth is the better path for you. 3. The Core Message allows you to cover the track s key concepts in 20 minutes or less. 4. Explore in Depth is the most comprehensive and structured way to navigate the track and takes approximately two hours to complete. 5. Challenge Yourself includes an interactive workplace simulation in video format to validate your understanding of key concepts from the track. 6. Take the Test includes a formal post-test to gauge your comprehension of the track concepts and it serves as a completion indicator for the track. 7. The Completion Status link shows whether completion criteria have been satisfied for the track. You can generate a Certificate of Completion of a Learning Track from the Completion Status link. There are two possible completion statuses: In progress: The yellow status flag indicates an asset or test must be completed to satisfy the completion criteria. Completed: The green status flag indicates the required asset or test has been completed and satisfies track completion criteria. 8. Resources at the bottom of the Track Home page provides quick access to all the resources for the track, including Leader Led Activities and Tools & Self Assessments. 3
Navigating Explore in Depth The menu on the left provides easy access to navigate the core Learning Track resources and shows Getting Started, followed by the subtopics covered, a track Summary, and Additional Resources to supplement your learning. The Essentials can be accessed from any pages within the Learning Tracks by clicking on the icons in the upper right. To view all the assets in a sub-category, select beside that subcategory. Each asset displays an icon representing whether it can be watched, read, or applied. Visited icons indicate progress toward completion and the duration of each asset. 4
Assessing Your Knowledge Do You Need It? offers a series of pre-assessment questions so you can quickly determine how the information in this Learning Track will help you meet your development goals. Self-assessments provide opportunities for self-reflection and a means to assess attitudes, skills, and knowledge pertinent to specific competency areas. Self-assessments are located in the Resources area of the Track Home page, and can also be easily accessed from the Track Index. The Challenge allows you to apply your new knowledge and validate your understanding of key concepts. The Challenge is a 15-20 minute video-based, interactive workplace simulation focused on analysis, problem solving, and decision making within a specific business scenario. The Test includes 10-12 scored questions designed to confirm your mastery of the core concepts presented in the track. Successful completion of the test is required for official completion of any individual Learning Track. Applying Your Knowledge Leader Led Activities are designed to be used in the workplace in one-on-one or small group settings to increase awareness, reinforce concepts, or apply what you've learned to workplace issues, problems, or scenarios. Each track offers four to six leader led activities in the form of Word and PowerPoint documents. The Leader Led Activities fall into three categories: Discussion Guides are designed to increase awareness about a key concept and reinforce learning either individually or in small groups. Facilitation Guides are used to discuss one or more key concepts and facilitate an activity around the topic with a direct report, colleague, or small group. Application Guides support on-the-job application of new skills and knowledge via facilitated activities and discussions, as well as out-of-session assignments, tasks or homework. Application activities are specifically designed to help you and your team transfer the track concepts to real workplace tasks, issues or projects. You can also use the included tips to create your own leader led activities. Tools are a convenient resource to help you apply your new skills in the workplace. Use Tools on or off to integrate new concepts into your daily work life. 5
Featured Learning Resources Videos: Leadership Advantage 3.0 includes short duration, high impact videos that present important concepts straight from leading industry, leadership development and academic thought leaders. Quick and engaging, these videos deliver practical insights that you can begin to leverage immediately. Videos can be viewed online or downloaded for offline play. Key Concepts: These short narratives provide the context for and connections between the various assets included in the Learning Track. They present essential learning points in an easy to digest format and can be viewed online or printed. Book Summaries: Book Summaries cover the salient points and ideas of the most popular business books from today's foremost authors. Designed for ease of use with short passages, bulleted lists and other useful elements, you can access the full Book Summary online, download the transcript or audio file to read or listen to offline, or just review the excerpted material included in the Explore in Depth section of Leadership Advantage. Blueprints: Blueprints, authored by industry experts for industry experts, provide best practices insight on strategic business issues. You can access the full Blueprint online, download the transcript or audio file to read or listen to offline, or just review the excerpted material included in the Explore in Depth section of Leadership Advantage. Business Impacts: Visually rich and engaging, Business Impacts analyze frequently encountered workplace scenarios and provide an interactive experience. This enables learners to apply the skills to real business situations, with on-screen feedback for correct or incorrect responses. Interactive Case Studies: Case Studies allow you to practice your skills in realistic business scenarios that complement the course learning material, with activities designed to help you expand your knowledge of the core content. 6
