ADMISSIONS, RECRUITMENT AND MARKETING SERVICE RECRUITMENT AND OUTREACH DEPARTMENT The Post Student Recruitment and Outreach Intern Ref: SC3102 The post holder will be one of two interns based in the Outreach team within the University s Recruitment and Outreach Department (RAO). The role holder will work alongside Higher Education Advisers and Outreach Officers in the organisation, administration and delivery of outreach and recruitment initiatives. These can range from visits to schools, attendance at Higher Education Conventions, short taster sessions and lectures to school children, through to residential summer schools, which take place over several days. The role will be undertaken within the framework of an agreed training and development programme and the role holder will be closely supported in the delivery of tasks and activities. The interns report to the Outreach Manager who reports to the Assistant Head of Outreach. Recruitment and Outreach Department RAO engages with prospective students, their parents and teachers to promote the benefits of higher education and studying at the University. RAO is responsible for: Providing higher education advice to potential applicants through our schools liaison and attendance at higher education fairs within the UK or the European Union. Delivery of exciting events for students aged 14-19 including summer schools, subject courses and special university lectures. Organising an extensive range of outreach activities to raise aspirations and increase participation in higher education. Producing the University s Access Agreement and supporting our Widening Participation strategy. Organising University Open and Visit Days and other corporate recruitment and outreach events such as our Teacher Conference and the Norfolk UCAS Fair. Responding to enquiries from, and distributing prospectuses and other literature to, prospective students. Recruitment and Outreach is based within the Admissions, Recruitment and Marketing service area, which is one of the main administration service areas within the University.

The precise duties will be agreed in discussion with the Manager. Person Specification The person specification for this post is attached as Appendix B. Training The Internship is designed to help equip recent graduates with a range of skills in educational liaison and marketing. The Internships will therefore offer a significant training and development component. This will consist of: Support with developing and personal development plan Training in updating content on web pages Opportunity to attend a number of in house training sessions run by CSED Training in giving presentations and preparing content for interactive sessions Opportunity to attend external conferences Opportunity to develop marketing materials and use of social media GENERAL Salary Salary will be 18,412 to 20,624 per annum on Grade 4 on the single salary spine. The normal expectation is that starting salary will be at the minimum of the advertised salary scale. Starting Date The post is available from 6 July 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter on a fulltime basis for a fixed term period of 1 year. Terms and Conditions of Appointment Full details of terms and conditions of employment for Secretarial & Clerical staff will be made available to the candidate to whom the appointment is offered. As the Internships are training posts, termination of employment at the end of the fixed term will be classed as Some Other Substantial Reason ( SOSR ), and not redundancy.

There is no expectation that the Code of Practice relating to Fixed Term Employees will be followed at the end of these posts, but the Human Resources Manager will write to the Student Recruitment and Outreach Interns no less than four weeks before the end of the contract, to confirm the termination of employment on the grounds of SOSR. Annual Leave Entitlement There is an annual holiday entitlement of 20 days plus statutory (8 days) and customary (6 days) holidays. Superannuation The post is superannuable under the Universities Superannuation Scheme. Disclosure and Barring Service This appointment will be subject to a criminal record check at Enhanced level from the Disclosure and Barring Service. APPENDIX A JOB DESCRIPTION REF: SC3102 Job Title: Student Recruitment and Outreach Intern Grade: Grade 4 Department: Reporting to: Recruitment and Outreach Department Outreach Manager PURPOSE OF ROLE The Student Recruitment and Outreach Intern is a member of the Recruitment and Outreach department within the Admissions, Recruitment and Marketing service area and are managed by the Outreach Manager. The Recruitment and Outreach teams are responsible for ensuring that the University can identify and recruit students of outstanding achievement and potential from all educational backgrounds. The Student Recruitment and Outreach Intern will work alongside Higher Education Advisers, Enquiry Handling Team and Outreach Officers in the organisation, administration and delivery of outreach and recruitment initiatives. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To assist in the day-to-day operational administration of a number of recruitment and outreach activities organised within the Recruitment and Outreach Department To enthuse, introduce and promote Higher Education to predominately sixth form, secondary and some primary school students. To support the delivery of on and off campus events such as subject taster sessions and school liaison activity. To deliver presentations on the various programmes of study and reasons for studying at University to both schools, sixth form colleges and mature learners. To assist in the development of high quality information and training resources to support activity and initiatives; To represent UEA at national and regional Higher Education events To contribute to central recruitment activities, for example Opens Days and Visit Days

To assist in the recruitment and training of UEA Student Ambassadors To assist with the evaluation and monitoring of projects To update, monitor and engage in social media To assist with the delivery of residential Summer Schools offered by the Outreach and Enrichment teams To assist and support the Enquiry Handling Team To assist with the updating and development of the Recruitment and Outreach Office s web-pages.
