This paper examines the boundary conditions of the TCE-predicted relationship between asset specificity and firms boundary choices. It focuses on two homogenous firms facing decisions to organize transactions divided into two separable stages. The paper provides a more precise articulation of the boundary conditions surrounding TCE s central predictions. The analysis identifies and simulation demonstrates the specific conditions where the application of resourcebased logic may alter standard transaction cost economic (TCE) predictions. This paper examines the effect of firm-specific governance capabilities on governance choices. It turns out that only in specific conditions a firm s governance capabilities related to a specific governance form favor that form.
